I'm ready to change up my wardrobe, but I don't know what to get! I'm an impulse buyer & end up not wearing half the things I buy, so I need some guidance. I want more simple pieces that I can mix & match. what are some of your essentials? thanks beauties :)

I think the best thing is to buy basic items from nice shops (like J. Crew) and then adding on with more exotic, colorful clothing.

I'm an impulse buyer too, it sucks! I always see myself wearing my denim jacket, my cardigans, my black jeans, my flowy v-neck tees. I always think it's a good thing to have a LBD or a dress that's black and another neutral shade. It's also great to have tank tops in a bunch of neutral colors to wear with cardigans. I own like a million cardigans, I have an olive green one, a tribal print, like 2 black ones..

Are you familiar with the idea of a capsule wardrobe? It's really helpful for reigning in impulse buys! Also, thinking about what you do day to day is hugely helpful for planning your wardrobe. For example, if you work full time in a corporate office, how many snarky F21 t-shirts or ill-fitting band shirts do you really need? So the basics depend on what your dress code (and location). What I do is look realistically at how much time I spend in various settings (work, casual, going out fancy clothes) and divide my wardrobe accordingly.

Regardless, a nice pair of dark-wash or black denim (pricey but you can wear every day without anyone catching on and they'll last forever), a good pair of boots, a supremely comfortable sweater, and one knock-out job interview outfit are the supreme basics no matter what/where you are.

I would go for your essentials such as a couple blazers and cardigans that are neutral colours. If you like jeans I would suggest getting a couple pairs of good quality jeans 1 in dark wash and another in a medium wash or black. Getting a variety of different coloured tank tops is a good idea. To add interest to any look you can get statement jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets. Also try getting some cute colourful or patterned blouses/tops.

Thank you! I'll have to look up a capsule wardrobe :)
