So I have short lashes clumped together and need a mascara to help separate.

Have you tried first using a lash primer? Urban Decay makes a great one! Putting that on first helps separate my lashes and keep my mascara on. I love mascara from Tarte their smart and their lights camera lashes mascaras are both really good.
