So this might be a pretty dumb question. but I'm totally hair inept. I'm a person who just puts a little mouse in my hair when I feel fancy. since I started bleaching it it's been getting wavier. but I loove my hair straight. so if I straightened it with my hair damp would that be really damaging?? I have heat protectant and do take good care of my hair. but blow drying it then straightening it would take up too much time in the mornings.

Straightening it wet would damage it so much. Why not just sleep with it wet and straighten it in the mornings?

Usually straightening hair when it's wet defeats the purpose of straightening it because when it dries, it might dry a different texture rather than straight. Does that make sense?

Wouldn't straightening it wet dry it though?

Not unless it's wet but almost dry already.

Damp, I couldn't think of the word haha.

Well ultimately yes it would. I see it as deep frying your hair. If you're going to do it which I don't recommend then go get a straightener that's meant to be for wet hair.

It would be damp not soaked. my hair dries fastish. so by the time I'm done putting my face on my roots and bangs are dry but the rest is still damp.

@Rosa any specific one in mind?,

I don't recommend it, but try it and see what you think. Remington has one for wet hair, it's at almost any drugstore and it's about $30.

I wouldn't straighten my hair damp at all.
straightening it dry is already damaging once you straighten it damp it will be even more damaged.

I agree with the other girls, I would never straighten my hair while it's damp. I literally bought a blow dryer so that I wouldn't have to damage my hair even more by straightening it while it's damp. So either invest in a blow dryer or get a wet to dry straightener like the one from InStyler.

You're welcome! And no need to apologize, we've all started with no knowledge and just learned as we went (:

I had a hair straightner that was called wet to dry, it was a remington, and I tried it with wet/damp hair and it totally fired my hair..it was a terrible mess, my hair is normally straight so I thought it would work amazingly but after that I never used it on my wet hair ever again..

Haha I know right. I don't want to be the reason someone fried their hair.

Hahah. Seriously. Although my friend has such pretty hair. And she straightens it every day soaking wet. She's crazy.

Insane haha! Maybe her parents genes gave her extremely strong hair.

I think heat is heat no matter what the straightner was made for. I too had that wet to dry straightner from remington and it doesn't make my hair any less damaged lol. it still fried my hair.

Straightening wet hair even damp would destroy them completely...straightening alone is damaging in itself but doing it on wet hair simply instills irreparable damage.

Your hair is more fragile while it's wet, even slightly. If you've done so, you notice so much more smoke steaming from the flag iron and that's not a good thing, lol. Also, straightening it wet/damp will more than likely cause it to be frizzy (I have tried it before when I was in a rush, the outcome wasn't great lol)

Straightening will damage your hair whether it is wet or dry. You can cut down in that damage by using a heat protectant. If your straightening wet hair make sure it is damp; not soaked. Also, make sure you go out a buy a straightener that is meant to be used on wet hair! Regular ones not meant for wet use can be extremely dangerous (like a fire hazard) and can fry your hair.

If you think about it, you're basically boiling the water that's in your hair lol so blow dry it on a low setting first if you're in a rush (if not let it air dry) and then straighten it when its dry :) it's still a bit damaging so I'd suggest putting a heat protectant in before straightening or blow drying.
