How has your style evolved over time?

I was just reflecting on how I tried dressing when I started high school versus now! I'm almost 17 and a lot has changed. I used to dress very hipster-ish and bohemian but I never really liked that style. I kind of bought clothing like that because of the people I was friends with. As I got more mature I realized that I didn't like how I dressed and after multiple shopping trips my style has changed to more of a classic "preppy" look. And for once I feel confident in my wardrobe and it reflects me. I always feel sophisticated in a way and it just makes me a lot happier:)
I am not trying to categorize styles and people in any way but that's the closest adjectives I could use.
So what's your style story? Has it changed over time? It has it been a certain way for a while? What do you like/dislike about it?

I have changed a TON over the years.

I went from a scene kid in 2008-2010 to a tom boy that refused to wear dresses or skirts in 2010-2011 to my current style, which is really whatever I feel like depending on the day. I love wearing dresses and skirts now but some days I'm happy in a band tee, skinny jeans, and a leather jacket. I really don't fall into any kind of style now, I'm just happy wearing whatever I want to wear (:

What do you guys think causes people to change their styles?
Is it like their environment or the people they're around?

I definitely think my style changed because of the people I was hanging out with. I was a scene kid because my friends were scene kids, I was a tomboy because my friends were tomboys, and then I grew up and thought "I don't want to dress like everyone else, I want to dress how I want to dress" so now I do (:

My style hasnt really changed per se, I've always been rather dark/mistaken for goth ish and what not, its just a little more refined now. I used to only wear boot cut jeans and sneakers, now its skinny jeans and boots that actually match my top (usually a sweater)

I agree, the people I hung out with was one of the main reasons of my change. But also I changed high schools and first I was in an average town, my dads job was promoted and now we live in a more developed town with different types of people. At first I didn't know what vineyard vines or J Crew was but after moving I was introduced to my new found passion lol.

I think music can be a factor too. I didn't realize all the things that could affect this!

In the 7th grade I was in a all black wearing phase but as I entered highschool I started wearing colors and prints, but as of last year I went to all black clothing and leggings on an everyday basis.

This was from nearly seven years ago lol, so as you can see, I've changed a lot. I was big on the scene phase due to the music I liked, the style was HUGE then, and my group of friends. As I matured, I completely grew out of that (thank God). I realize now how dumb I looked lol, but hey, I was cool at the time. ;) Nowadays...I'm not sure what I'd classify my style as really. Kind of a mix of everything haha. And don't get me wrong, I definitely have some edginess still, but never to that extent again.

I have changed a lot too. I had full bangs covering my eyes (down to my nose) thankfully they didnt last lol. But alll I wore was band shirts, skinny jeans and converse until I was like 16.

I've changed a lot as well! I used to wear my short hair in a ponytail from 2012-early 2013, then I switched to my curling cream (Thank God!) also my style can range from edgy to hippie to casual chic.

Goodness I changed over the years SO MUCHHHHH. may I add that I changed for the better hahaha. In 4th-6th grade it was scene kid as well, how funny. 7th-9th I was extremely careless I would always be wearing sweats and wife beaters (probably the one I scratch my head at most lol). Then from 10th grade on, I became more of what I think I was most comfortable which is girly but edgy at the same time. I became extremely obsessed with shoes and clothes lol, it's whatever I feel like nowadays. Some days I'll be completely girly, the next edgy, to a complete tomboy Jordan's with jerseys lol. I have a very diverse style but I thinks it's because I have so many pieces lol. I do think it was more the music I was into/crowd I was around before, then I just realized I don't give a shit and I'll wear what I want lol. One thing that has never changed, though, is my PET PEEVE of not matching. I would ALWAYS have to match regardless of the phase I was going through, I've been that way since I was a munchkin lol.

Ok. Sorry for that paragraph hahahaha.

I used to be extremely revealing. Tight clothes, showing off a lot. Wanted a lot of attention. But now, I'm an old lady. I don't know what I was thinking. I used to wear a lot of eye liner too. I tried way too hard honestly.

I applaud you for being upfront like that Shanae 🙌 not many females admit when they crave and do things for attention lol. I was the same way in 8th grade when I actually got ready. I'd go to the mall looking way older than I was! Uncool. I get mad at my sisters for doing that because they're bad haha

Aww thank you, Renay! I was really stupid back then, I get annoyed when I see girls like that these days. Haha. But then I feel hypocritical.

I was scene from the age to 11-12 because of the music then I started wearing swagger clothes for like 2-3 months then I went scene again and was like that and now my current style is girly and still hardcore a little bit. I felt like me being scene helped me be more open minded about music.

Shanae!? Aren't you 17?18? You're not an old lady lol
I used to dress like a little chola haha it was definitely from the area where I grew up but once I moved to where I lived now I slowly started to dress differently, (although to be completely honest I still catch myself bumping my old music & my bf says my old attitude sneaks up on me here & there. Lol
I never went scene but a lot of my friends did at the time I still remember I would tell them " you look wack" hahahaa oh the memories that you brought up with this question.
Now I dress pretty girly especially when I go out. I like to look classy sexy

Haha this question brings up memories... when I was like 13 years old I had kind of a "mini badass " phase, I was dressed all black with neon tanktops lol... and that terrible smeared black eyeliner I wore... and later, I was more into a lazy tomboyish style until I was 15, when I started getting interested into clothes. I bought tons of clothes that time, my style was sort of a classy but still very individual that time. then I got more into oldschool rock and punkrock and my style changed a lot. now I'm more into that style of punk girls from the seventies mashed up with some sixties items. and I looove military pieces and combat boots... so yeah I'm a punk rock girl. just too strange to be anything else lol.

Oh man, my style is everchanging... I would say that it stayed the same in the fact that I'm consistently changing something. I have this thing about looking a bit different than my friends. The only "trying to fit in" phase was in middle school. I had a friend that wanted to "fix" me haha. I would turn up at her house to pick her up for school (we walked there) with braids that went STRAIGHT UP. By the end of middle school I was all decked out in Paul Frank t-shirts haha.
You know what? I used to wear a lot of long sleeve tops with t-shirts on top: think "Sheldon Cooper - chic" (lmao). But I could pull it off without boobs.

In general I need to change my hair all the time and my clothing style has stayed quite similar, with the exception of dresses, a thing I've only started wearing in the last 5 years. Still now, in the winter, I rarely wear dresses. Oh, and my hair has been short for 7 years now!

(Yup, that was a tream of consciousness and I'm not sorry about it haha!)
Btw, love reading the other stories!
