I'm 33 and I've been getting awful breakouts the last few months. Probably 7-8 large breakouts probably a bit smaller or similar to cystic acne. Seems to have a hormonal component bc 2 weeks of the month my skin is perfect. Topical a have NEVER worked at all for me (Retin A, etc). I actually took 3 full courses of Accutane in my teens and 20s with amazing results. It's been 5 years since my last course. My dermatologist recommended spironolactone. Anyone have any experience with it? I'm wondering if I should just take Accutane again as that was the other option he gave me. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm sure it will look awful being that dry so trying to avoid it if I can. Can't believe I'm still dealing with acne at this age and 3 courses of Accutane.

My acne started in my 30's too. It took a few years a couple trips to a dermatologist, until I finally stopped using Too Faced products. and started using Dermalogica. I went to Ulta, got a great clean out of my acne. I still battle with a few hormonal break outs on my chin and jaw line, but now its more around being stressed. I don't get the time of month, so the stinkers have to find a way to pop up! Anyway, if you have an Ulta by you, they do face mapping to help figure out how best to treat your skin.

I just turned 41 and I woke up to one massive zit on my cheek this morning. And going thru menapause...I thought acne would go thru extinction after my mid 20's. Not the case...even my 55 year old mother-in-law gets an occasional breakout. I agree with Monica...check out the Dermalogica line and get the face mapping done so they can align you with some products to address the situation. You will want something that will not only take care of the acne but offer some anti-aging benefits as well. Knock out two birds with one stone.

It is hormonal , and I use to get them also but I haven't had a pimple in almost a year , one thing I have done is drink a ton of lemon water take antioxidants in supplements and food and take fish oil or flaxseed hormonal breakouts all boil down to inflammation and these things help fight it, I already know you take super good care of your skin so you might just wanna research other things before you try the Accutane again
