There's is a lot of YouTube tutorials on this
it would be better to watch them then people explaining it on text (:

I would not suggest YouTube when learning how to do a smokey eye since most of the tutorials are actually for gradient eyes.

Smokey eyes are one color with most of the color on the lid and fades as it goes up into the crease and beyond (:

@alexis I actually learned how to do a smokey eye from YouTube.
since you actually get to see what they are doing instead of someone explaining on text.
Text can make it sound more complicated than it actually is.
That's why YouTube is great for learning how to do a smokey eye or any makeup tutorial.

I agree that YouTube is great for learning about how to do makeup however, as I said, most "smokey eye" tutorials are actually gradient eyes so I wouldn't want Linette or anyone else learning an improper technique.

So where can I learn the smoky eye technique from

Smokey eyes are one color with it darkest in the lid and fades as it goes into the crease and beyond. Jacqlyn had a great pictorial for it, I'll see if I can find it or something similar.

Here you go!

Use black on the lid and just blend it outwards.

I know this is old but I agree with you Alexis. most tutorials are gradient eyes, not smokey. they are a few tuts that are actually smokey eyes but if you're new to makeup you won't tell the difference.

Thats a great pictorial. I have to agree with alexis that some YouTube gurus don't actually know the difference.
