I tried proactive a few years ago and it made me break out like crazy so I stopped using it. I suggest to never sleep with makeup on because it clogs pores and makes pores look bigger. I use to leave my makeup on and once I started washing my face every night, it cleared up. I totally recommend using Cetaphil Oil Control Foam Wash ! :D

I hated it. It made my face burn so bad and didn't help with my acne at all.

I tried everything! My skin was really bad n I had those nasty hard pimples that u can't squeeze n would never go away. I never tried proactive thou cos I heard bad reviews. I just googled a lot of stuff n ended up using Dr. Dennis Gross wipes. These really worked!! It took 2 months to really see results. Now my skin is clear as! Just gotta find something to get rid of the scarring that the pimples left behind :(

I'm surprised I'm seeing all these bad reviews. I love proactiv. I stopped using it a while back and my acne came in bad. I just ordered some more last week.

I say see a dermatologist. When I go I have to pay a copayment of $50. $35 is my normal copayment but on my insurance a dermatologist is considered a specialist thus the higher copayment.

Erin D. that's because your skin is now dependent on the antibiotic properties of benzoyl peroxide, one of the main acne fighting ingredients in ProActiv! Seriously, gentler is better when it comes to acne prone skin! Use Cetaphil or Cerave, those products are much better!

Nd about people saying it dries it skin the lotion that comes with it says"apply 2 to three times a day if it skin drys up" but even tho you can buy their green tea or oil free moisturizer to keep it skin looking good during the day and at night u can use the oil control gel/cream, when I wake up in the morning my skin isn't as oily.. I'm telling u to trust me in this product! U just know how to use it right and maintain a hydrated acne free skin...I hope this helps

Mallory C, I'm with you. It worked really great for the first week, but then it started to really dry my skin out. So now I'm trying to find a new acne treatment.

Proactive is great at first, but after the second week my face started to dry out and it didn't help with my acne problems.

Proactive is for people who have extremely overactive sebaceous glads and grade 3 to 4 acne (severe). If thats not you then dont use it.

I love proactive , it's the only thing that has cleared up my acne . The 123 step system is very drying though and it made my skin quite red. I spoke to the lady at the proactive counter and she recommended that I use the 'deep cleansing wash' (instead of step 1) then step 2 and 3 and use the green tea moisturizer ONLY once a day. I went from having acne all over my face to only the occasional pimple. And using the new routine (not step 1 + moisturizer stopped my face being red and dry). If I miss a day using proactiv though I do breakout. I have been using proactiv for 4 years. Hope this helps :)
