I was just browsing online for a good foundation and concealer and I discovered one for $215 dollars, from a brand called "La Prairie".. I'm curious as to if anyone has tried this or any of their other products, as all of them are up there in price.. I'm curious as to whether or not these are some miracle products or not..

Yeah. I just discovered them today and I've been reading up on them; the reason it's so expensive is because of the caviar extract in them, which I failed to mention in my post! Still wondering if they're great products though.. Not that I would bet able to afford them lol. Thanks for the response though!

I would never pay $215 on products from a company that I've never heard about.

Oh, yeah I wouldn't pay that about regardless, I don't think. I feel like there's probably products that do NOT contain fish eggs that work just as well.. I'm just curious about it

I've heard of this brand before. I used to work at a Laura Mercier counter at a department store that also carried LP products as well. They're a luxurious brand for sure. I got to sample a few products and they were nice. Wouldn't call their foundation a miracle product. I've found foundations for a quarter the price and less that are amazing. I could never spend that much money on skincare, let alone foundation. Unless, I was a multimillionaire lol
What's your skin type and what are you looking for in a foundation?
Aug 1, 2015
Emily V.
Yeah I don't have the money, but for some reason it really sparked my interest. I have combination skin, but my dry spots and oily spots aren't really too bad, not much of a concern for me, besides my forehead, which gets oily. Honestly, I'm not really sure what I'm looking for in a foundation. Even though I hate to say so, I have ALWAYS just used drug store foundations. I've never used a high end foundation, and I'm finally looking for one because I'm no longer happy with the drug store ones like I was before. I like semi-matte finishes, and I also am looking for a pretty full coverage.

I have combination skin too. For high end foundations, I like Lancôme Teint Idole 24 hour, MUFE Mat Velvet, and Estée Lauder Double Wear. Lancôme is my favorite at the moment. All three are full coverage, but this one feels like skin. I'm picky with foundations, so I always get samples first. All of these are around $50. Way cheaper :)

I would look into the RCMA color process foundation. It's only $18, looks like skin, is perfect for every skin type, is full coverage, and they carry a wide range if shades.

It's a very high end and popular brand but I haven't tried any of their products. Little pricey for me :)

I've been using Maybelline Fit Me for like 4 years now. I like it but I really want to try something new. I was thinking Estée Lauder Double Wear, but I don't know, I'm just not sure yet! Thanks everyone

Uber luxury brand, been around for many years. Lots of people find it worth the splurge. Try it before you invest! Stores will give you samples!

Reny J. I'm not saying the company is irrelevant because I'm not familiar with them, I'm just saying I don't know about their products so I wouldn't pay the money, other people may love their products. It just seems a little gimmicky to put fish eggs in a foundation and concealer then charge $200 for them. But like I said, I'm not familiar with the company. I did however recommend a product that I use everyday and love, it's affordable, and it's better than every high end foundation I've used in the past.

I'm not a fan of the cosmetics but the skincare is divine. Just super pricey. This line has been around for over 30 years. They actually started out as skincare clinic/resort in Switzerland where European elite go to detox their skin for anti-aging purposes. I had a facial last year at spa who used the line on me and omg...my skin looked beautiful. I didn't wear makeup for two weeks because of what the products did to my skin. I'm in agreement with Jackie in regards to the cosmetic range. If you're wanting to check out an uber high-end foundation brand ByTerry, Koh Gen Do Aqua are worthy along with Sisley and Chantecaille.

@Shelley I love the Chantecaille future skin foundation too. What way do you apply it? Do you use a beauty blender or a brush? I'm experimenting with different techniques and I wondered if you have found a way to apply it?
Sorry for hijacking this post!

@Ealu...I either use a foundation brush or clean fingers applying in sections. I can't wait till fall/winter to pull it out again.

My grandfather loves the La Prarie toiletries and my grandmother loves the cosmetics- they swear by the stuff! I've never actually used it before though… might be better for mature skin??
Aug 1, 2015
Shelley W.
Natalie...in regards to skincare...yes and no. Some of the masks can be used by mature and younger skin. Purely dependent on what skin issue one is trying to correct. I find that the creams are a bit rich and could be more problematic for younger skin but can be ok for someone like myself who has aging skin and going thru menopause. The cosmetics are basic...the eye shadows and lipsticks do not have anything on lets say Kat Von D. You will not find vibrant hot neon pink lippies and neon green eyeshadows. They definitely market towards a certain demographic and the Urban Decay crowd is certainly one that they do not cater to. The one skincare product that I love and would probably purchase once I'm completely wiped out of my facial peels is the Cellular 3 Minute Peel. I experienced that peel during a facial and lets just say if they had it in stock that day I would've bought it despite the price.

Jacqueline the Kohler Gen Do foundation - would that work on oily skin? I've been curious, but I'm super oily.
I've tried the La Prairie skincare (I used to work at Neiman Marcus) and it was divine. Never tried the cosmetics.
Aug 1, 2015
Shelley W.
@Bonnie...in case Jackie doesn't see your question...yes it works on oily skin and its one of those formulas that look better thru the day as you wear it. I can't wear it because they have yet to release a shade dark enough for my skintone but I've seen this product in action and its a beautiful formula. The formula is lightweight and the coverage is on the light side though it is buildable.

Thanks Shelley! I think that might be my next purchase.

Too pricey... If you wanna try them my advice is go for the skincare,as their makeup isnt that good for what you are paying for. But still even skincare wise, there are a lot of brands that do the same thing for way less money... Check out any French high end brand and youll see for yourself,as they usualy do very good skincare products.
