What are the differences between a pencil a gel and a liquid eyeliner? are the finishes different or is it just preference? I myself use gel because to me its easier than pencil , especially if you're wearing shadows but I don't dabble much in liquid.

I find liquid 1000 times easier than pencil or gel, and since most gels irritate my eyes, and plus liquid is easier for me to control and get a good wing. My fav is kat von d and nyc (:

Liquid eyeliner and certain gel liners will definitely give you a more precise and sharp look, pencils and other type of gel liners can give you that more smudgy look if that's what you're going for.. I personally love liquid pan liners, they have the hand feel and application of a pencil but the Percision of a liquid!

Yeah pencil ones are good for smudging. I like the pencil kajal ones for that.
Gel and liquids are definitely more precise and I find they last longer. I prefer the gel ones because they can be use on the waterline and they last all day. Whereas with liquid liner if you try to do that you could end up having the liner moving around in your eyes if it doesn't dry completely.
I also find that liquid ones aren't that sanitary.
One time I had an eye infection and took antibiotics but I didn't feel too good about using that same liquid liner just cause I didn't really wash the brush that goes with it or anything and with gel ones I could wipe off the top layer from the pot and I always clean my brush and haven't had any issues
