Do some "training" at home: buy heels that are not soo high, some higher ones and very high ones and work your way up! put on thick socks to widen them out and walk around at home.
that's just what I did lol :)

1. Practice, practice, practice. Start by walking a coulple of minutes everyday in your house while washing the dishes or doing your makeup.
2. Buy wedges instead of stilettos. They are more comfortable and help with balance
3. Platform does help! 1 cm or 2 cm of platform helps your feet by not feeling tired faster.
4. Ankle straps also helps with balance
5. Walk straight, do not curve your back.

I agree practice and start small with kitten heels and/or wedges then graduate the stilettos

Wedges are definitely a good way to go! Toms wedges are super comfortable.

I'm 5 even so I feel your pain! With real heels, practice is the way to go, just as everyone else said! For everyday, converse sells a shoe with a hidden heel. They look just like regular high tops but they add like two inches I believe. I haven't tried them yet but I plan to!

If you get platform, then the difference in hight between the ball of your foot and your heel won't have to be so dramatic. By a pair of little heals and medium heels and tall heels and seriously just work your way up. Don't push it, wear the little kitten ones all day then when your ready move to the next one. And so one. If your arches start to hurt to much switch to a platform heel.

I learned to walk in heals with a pair of shoes that had a strap across my ankle to keep my foot in. I just trotted around my house in them for a few weeks and I was comfortable enough to wear them out. MAKE SURE THEY FIT YOU!! Nothing will make it more difficult than trying to walk in a heel that doesn't fit you properly. Make sure you are walking putting your heel down first and then your toe, keep your back straight as well! Good luck!! There is nothing like the confidence a killer pair of heels can give you when you are comfortable in them!
