Ways to lighten hair color w/o bleaching?

Any idea on how to lighten hair without bleaching? I've heard of some shampoo called Manzanita and supposedly it lightens the hair a little, but are there any other options?

I love to use lemon, my hair is blonde, I don't know how well it will work on darker hair, but it has naturally helped me to achieve almost white blonde highlights over time! Check out the website diyncrafts.com, they have an article which has a few recipes for natural hair lightening mixtures and I love them all!

Please don't. It's not worth it. Bleaching really isn't much damage when done correctly.

It may have worked for me because I already have blonde hair. I take good care of my hair, so the lemon juice etc.has
not had a drying effect on my hair.

It's not even the drying that is the worst part, its the fact that if it pulls orange at all, you will not be able to tone it without bleaching it. And anyone with dark hair, will pull orange at some point in lightening.

I agree with Alyx. Bleaching is honestly the safest way to ensure your hair doesn't get screwed up. As long as you take care of it, you don't have to worry about damage.

Gotcha.. Thank you all for wonderful responses! My hair is just such a dark dark brown, I've always been afraid of bleaching being my only option. I just wanted a cheap alternative.. Lol.

I used sun in and it completely ruined my hair. Do not use, your hair will die.
