What do you use vaseline for?
Isn't it a sealant? So does it work over the top of moisturisers? Does it keep the moisture longer?

I use it as a sealant after I exfoliate my lips with sugar and olive oil :3. I simply rub it on my lips.

I wouldn't necessarily put Vaseline on my face or anything to seal in moisture because it will make your makeup slip off your face and it's kind of a weird feeling that I don't typically like. I use it on my lips when I've exfoliated or used a Chapstick and I want to seal in the moisture on my lips. I also like to use it on places you put perfume so it has something to cling onto and make the scent last longer.

I wouldn't use it on top of moisturizer personally, these emollients already have protective properties to help strengthen your acid mantle and allow your skin to hold its moisture. Completely sealing it off with Vaseline would not allow the skin to breath and go about its daily functions which can lead to breakouts and irritation

I also agree with using it to make perfume last longer! I tried that out for the first time after seeing it on here last week and it was awesome! I use it around my hair line when dying my hair to protect it from staining, and I actually apply a bit on my fingernail as well when working with acetone to provide some protection (I'm around acetone quite a bit)

I also use it on my lips, especially in the winter time. Not as an every day moisturizer, but if my lips crack or something, Vaseline usually repairs it overnight. Also, I've heard of people using it on their feet overnight. Cracked heels, or just keeping them soft.

I'll use it after I apply my cracked heel cream from Avon to seal everything in, and then I'll throw on a pair of socks. Makes my feet super duper soft in the morning.

Yeah, sorry I said moisturiser I meant like over the dry parts of the body, like over the bodylotion. Do you think that would work? I would never put vaseline in my face, sorry for the bad explanation :D

Vaseline actually makes a line of lotion if you wanted to look into that. They're pretty heavy though.

Vaseline (petroleum)
Is an occlusive agent. It creates a physical barrier to "lock in moisture"
"Moisture" is literally water.
Petroleum is similar to emollients like olive oil, coconut oil etc
It's just heavier and "locks in" more moisture than emollients I've hear these type aren't as effective.
Some articles only include humectant & occlusive agents. Some only talk about emollient and humectant so it's sort of about where you get your info.
Moisturizers with petroleum have been prescribed for years by dermatologist just cause it effectively keeps the moisture on the skin.
Your face does not "breathe"
I personally apply it at night on my face only because I'm using prescription retinal and it's the only thing that softens up the existing peeling so when I wash my face, all the peeling/scaling is all gone once I wash it off.
I only have to do this about every other few days but it really softens my skin.
I think it could be added on top of moisturizers to really seal everything in at night. Occlusive a last longer than emollients on the skin

If I'm totally honest...nothing.
It shouldn't really be used as a moisturiser as it's a sealant. It shouldn't be used on eyelashes as it clogs.
It CAN however be used to keep hair dye off face, around nail polish to stop it going on your skin and to make perfume last on your skin.
And my dad uses it on his car.

I use vaseline for my lips and you can use them for your eyelashes to make them longer I have tried it and it works I already have long eyelashes so I don't use it very often.

Do not put Vaseline on your eyelashes
It's a sealant, it has nothing in it to make your eyelashes longer
It just looks longer because you're putting a coating on them
But it will trap bacteria near your eye and can cause clogged pores and eye infection

It's great to prep skin for fragrance just apply some to wear you would apply your fragrance then spray on the fragrance on the Vaseline and it stays all day!

@Stephanie...your dad is right. When I use to be into figure competitions I used it on some umconventional spots of the body during training. If not I would have something that resembled board rash the next morning. I could never do the baby powder thing...it was too obvious. I only use Vaseline after applying my foot cream to lock in all that goodness. Pull on some socks and the next morning...super soft feet.

I usually apply it on my hair line when I do my hair or I also apply it on areas that bother me when I need to break in a new shoe or a new heel (usually the back of my foot or on the top forwards the front) or for that special shoe that just needs the friction for certain spots.

Also don't use it on your eyelashes it doesn't help at all.. Like someone above said it makes your eyelashes look longer because there's a coat on them.. If you were to put water on your eyelashes they would look longer but that's only because there's a coat on them.
