I've never been able to tolerate benefit cosmetics as I am seemingly allergic to something in every single product I've tried from them, but that's a disgusting thing to read and their apology is so half-a**ed. They deserve any backlash they get.

I'm on Twitter right now and it backslashed on benefit us as well. what a shame.

The sad thing is it was probably a single employee responsible for that series of tweets. It only takes one person to give an entire brand a bad name.

I kind of agree with Liz on this one, it was in bad taste yes but its also kind of blown out of proportion! It was a bad joke that their social media team fell for, they are humans to and they apologized!

I agree with SEA. It was probably one or two employees. It's not like owner is sending out each and ever tweet, gram or posting. I love the Benefit products I own. If the story was about ingredients in the products then I would be jumping off the bandwagon immediately.

Wow and I thought benafit was a really nice brand!

I'm going to have to agree with Liz. They just made a really failed attempt at a joke.

I kinda get that it's a bad joke, and probably should have skipped the whole hashtag trend altogether since they're a company But I wonder if they made a joke about my heritage, I probably would be offended too... Lol but they apologized sincerely seems like, people need to just let it go..

I don't think it was blown out of proportion at all, but I don't think US Benefit should be getting hit because UK Benefit screwed up. Also, I'm sure it was just one or two employees who decided to do this rather than a company wide decision. However I completely disagree with it just being a bad joke, look at it any way you want but that won't defeat the fact that it is body shaming, it hurts, it is bullying and this doubt made loads of followers who saw this insecure about their body type.

It was definitely in poor taste and I'm pretty sure those responsible probably lost their job behind it due to public outcry...or probably not as it created "free" advertising to have people check out the line. I'm pretty sure PR is working overtime to cool off the storm it has created.

I really don't see why people are so upset over it. It was just a dumb joke. I also don't understand why people think that everyone should be expected cater to their feelings. And the fact that some think the employees should lose their jobs is pretty spiteful and mean.

@Lola...I never said anyone should lose their jobs behind it. Please do not misconstrued my comment. I've worked with companies who have terminated employees who have sent inappropriate tweets from company account. I even had the unfortunate task of demoting a individual for placing their personal opinion as a post on their company FB page. One must understand the dynamics of the business side of beauty...regardless if it was a harmless prank or not...apparently it bothered enough people for it to bring attention to the You.S side of Benefit Cosmetics.

I definitely agree with you there Shelley - if it was some random persons Twitter then no one would care but since it is a whole company's Twitter then it reflects poorly on the company that the people they employ think it's ok to make fun of fat people so in that aspect it's bad for business and that's the bottom line - even if some people can see that it's just a joke - not all jokes make every person laugh.., and some jokes can be offensive so for a company to publicly use an offensive joke as a marketing tool is just not ethical - and that's the main thing about it IMO

I was shocked to see this as I just saw quite the opposite occur on IG in the US. They had plus sized model Tess in a gram they posted and you should read the comments ppl posted ridiculing them for promoting plus size! I agree it was probably one person and just bad taste. I just wish they never responded about jumping on the hashtag bandwagon- that was a dumb response for PR especially. The follow up apology was much better.

Oh, also Tess was pictured on IG before this blowup. This occurred on the 6th if July and she was featured a week ago.

Sorry, Shelley. I wasn't referring to your comment. Just some of the things I've seen on twitter. I got mad that some people were saying whoever wrote the tweets should be fired. I could understand getting reprimanded or whatever, but I don't think it warrants ending someone's career which could actually mess up their lives.

Ahhhh gotcha Lola. ;) I think if anything a seminar in sensitivity/diversity training needs to be put in place for all employees surrounding this situation. I think a firing is pretty fierce unless they have a zero tolerance policy in place. At worst a simple verbal/written warning. If the guilty party recognizes its not funny anymore and truly feel remorseful then its the ultimate lesson learned.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I should've specified better.

Its all good Lola. No need to stress. I do appreciate you responding though. ;)
