Okay so I've been using Chi Flat Iron's for a really long time now, but once I 've had one for a few months they always start smelling really bad. Like burned hair. Its so bad that I can smell it from across my house. I clean it (with alcohol) all the time, which sort of helps for a little bit, but no matter what it starts smelling bad. Does anyone else have this problem? I've been through 3 Chi's (I also had this issue with ghd) and I love the flat iron other than this problem. Should I try a new one? I was think of Babybliss but its more expensive than Chi's and really the only thing I don't like is the smell.

Thanks Stephanie, which one do you have? I see they have about 3-4 different irons...

Are you sure you aren't damaging your hair and the smell is from the iron heat being due to the temp being too high for your hair type?
I love my Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium. I especially like the ease of controlling exact temperature.

Thanks Rozberry. And no on the damaging part. It has the smell before I even begin to use it. I can clean it really good, turn it on not use it, and I can smell it from the other room. I've thought that maybe there's hair caught in between the plates but thats not it... Drives me crazy. The only thing I can think of is that I use it everyday and maybe it just gets worn out sooner?

That's so strange! Could it be a product you use that lingers on the iron? Maybe a serum or spray? Glad it isn't your hair though. Whew! I have never had any trouble with my Babyliss Pro. My stylist picked it out for me and I've had it a few years now. Love...love.

See I've thought that, but no matter what I use it still does it. I use Its a 10 Plus Keratin and its actually made it not as noticeable as other products I've used with the iron. I think I'm going to go ahead and try Babyliss because I'm tired of it smelling like my Chi is going to catch fire at any moment lol. Thanks!

I have the pro nano titanium as well. It's what my stylist uses, and she's had the one she uses at her station for 6 years without it needing to be replaced. They're that good.

That's weird I've had the Ultra Chi for over 5 years and have never had a problem

I've been through 3 different ones and this one seems to be the worst. I honestly think its just because I use a lot and its maybe gotten worn out faster because of that?

Now I just can't decide between the Babyliss, 1-1/4 iron or the Ultra Thin 1"😞

And the Cool Mist looks neat too.

The ultra thin works super fast. I have really thick hair and it only takes five minutes. It can also be used as a curling iron.

Ok! I've had my chi for five years and have never had a problem, and I use it CONSTANTLY. if I noticed a smell, I'd toss it haha. BUT my mom has had this expetience, hers smells like...eggs...that's how I describe it lol. I think it is because she doesn't clean the build up, though...and she straightens her hair whike wet sometimes so that is probably the.

Hmmm thanks R.T. I never touch it when my hair is wet, I would ruin my hair if I did that lol. Thats weird though, I don't know why it does it😞
