So currently I wash my hair every morning and then blow dry in on weekdays. I'm trying to damage it less, so how should I transition from every day to 3 times a week? This is my hair when it's air dried:

Don't start sulfate free right away, because since I'm on it, I have to wash my hair more. I could do once a week before and now I do twice a week. So I would suggest to go by steps. First every two days, then three etc. On the second day just keep it in a bun or a pony, if it doesn't look great, which it might at first. It will take weeks to adapt.

I can't tie my hair up - my layers are too short to get all of it in!

This is way more extreme but it can give you an idea about how long it takes to adapt:

Ah then just use a clip to attach the top of the hair!

You could always try dry shampoo? Works for me, I wash my hair probably twice a week, then use the dry shampoo every other day.

Honestly my biggest tip is if you are not going anywhere, don't wash your hair. If you are having a lazy day inside on a Saturday, don't wash it Friday evening or Saturday at all. Wait till you need go somewhere. Dry shampoo as well. I only wish my hair once or twice a week now. But dry shampoo really helped me get here. Don't wash till you need to and use dry shampoo if your hair isn't *that* greasy. You could also try cleansing conditioners, they are gentler and more hydrating so your hair might not produce as much oils.

I'm looking at your photos and your hair looks great, even though you wash it that often. Before going sulfate free and installing a shower filter to block calc, mine would look so dry. I had to cut off to about the length you have now. I'm curious, do you have calc or chlorine in the water where you live?

That's a great one, but I do have to go to school Monday-Friday and normally I go out on Saturdays, so what then?

I don't know about the chlorine, Nathalie, but the water is quite hard where I live.

It's a phase you will have to go through. But you will be happy when it's done!

I see, here it's very hard also. I guess I just have naturally drier hair.

I remember when I was a teen, before I moved to the city, we had only rain water, so no calc. My hair was quite oily then. But it could have been because of puberty also. I'm quite passionate about the subject since I found out how to make my hair less dry and softer with sulfate free and the filter.

I use both dry shampoo (drybar) and I LOVE Lush products also. They have all different kinds of shampoo and conditioner bars, they're round and last forever and each one is for different types of hair. Good luck!

I would just do it day by day. so the first week wag your hair normally. ten for the next three weeks extend your wash day by one. so, if you wash your hair every day try washing your hair every two days. then for another three weeks add another day on so you're washing every three days. it's a long process and you'll definitely want some dry shampoo and rubber bands for emergency ponytails. I had your hair length and I watched a bunch of YouTube videos to figure out how to make buns and updos, etc. I wash y hair every four days as I love it! once you get to that point it's so awesome, you save so mug find haha.
