How long does it take you to finish foundation?

Hi everyone. I was looking through my makeup collection earlier, more specifically my foundation collection. I have a serious weakness for foundations. It got me thinking I will probably not get to finish all of them before they expire which is a shame, as I've only finished about 4 foundations since I started wearing makeup (about ten years or so now).

So How long does it take you to finish your foundation? Do you wear it every day? Do you like to rotate foundations or stick to one and finish it?

I'm currently trying some new foundations and enjoying mixing mac prolong wear and dior star skin together on other days. Both of those foundations are half full now which is good :-)

What a great question!
I only just got into foundation this year, so I still haven't finished a foundation - and I do see that I would have a hard til finishing an entire bottle before it expires. I have 4 foundations at the moment all with different levels of coverage and finish and so on and I pick the one that matches the look I desire! So many days where I do a natural look I will pick my most natural foundation, I have a matte medium/full coverage that I like to use when I go out and so on!

Thanks Sabrina! I'm the same I have quite a collection but most of them offer different levels of coverage, longevity, colours, finishes etc. I love trying new ones, over the past couple of weeks I've bought 4 new ones and I've been disappointed in 1 but impressed with the others :-) Do you have a favourite out of the 4 that you have?

Oh yes I do, I absolutely loooove my It cosmetics CC cream - I know it's technically not a foundation but with its high level of coverage I would say it comes close! It's a beautiful product that gives me such beautiful natural looking skin!
For a true foundation I really love the UD naked skin!
How about you - which 4 did you try? And what's your over all favorite foundation? Maybe I can get some inspiration on what to get next ;)

The it cosmetics cc cream is on my list of foundations to try. I hear such great reviews about it.

The 4 that I tried were revlon photoready foundation, loreal true match (new formulation), soap and glory one heck of a blot foundation and catrice nude illusion which I am really enjoying! The coverage is excellent (medium to full), it has great longevity and doesn't look heavy or cakey. I wasn't so keen on the revlon photoready as it didn't blend too well and had tiny shimmer particles in it but the colour was good and it lasted well throughout the day!

My overall favourite would have to be mac prolong wear or estee lauder double wear is a very close second. They both have great coverage, colour match is great, really nice semi matte finish too and last hours and hours on me.

I like the ud naked skin, it has nice coverage and blends easily but I don't find it amazing. It makes me oilier throughout the day and starts to fade along my jaw and nose despite using a primer. I'm glad I tried it though.

I just got into foundation seriously about six months ago , like as far as trying the different kinds but before then I've finished like 4 but it took a while and me wearing it off and on.

I definitely recommend IT cosmetics CC cream - it absolutely lives up to all the great reviews! And was actually one of the products that really made me wanna try out foundations!
I just got a tiny sample of the True match - I didn't like it much when I tried it this morning but I think I will try it again tomorrow to see if it was my primer it didn't agree with the foundation!

Yes Estee Lauder is so raved about! I might try the lighter coverage one sometimes!

Thanks for your input Chelsee! :-) What's your favourite foundation that you've tried? What coverage and finish do you prefer?

How did you apply the true match Sabrina? I prefer to use it with a damp sponge, it gives it a better flawless look in my opinion compared to a brush. Definitely check out estee lauder foundations, I hear the light one is very nice also. They are very generous and accommodating when it comes to foundation samples which is great!

I rotate 3:
It Cosmetics CC Cream
Cle Peau Cream Foundation
Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer.
Also: Honorable Mention.; Estee Lauder Maximum Coverage Foundation (although I use it for spot concealing). I would say it takes me about 6 mins to apply foundation (not counting concealer). I use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush then finish off with the Beauty Blender. There is another foundation I like sheer to medium) but I'm working on evening out my skintone before buying it. The foundations I'm using are all medium to full coverage.

And I wear foundation about 6 days a week.

Another it cosmetics cc cream user :-) What foundation are you planning on buying Marleen?

I have never finished a foundation before it had to be thrown out. I have finished a tube of the It cosmetics cc cream and a tube of the naked skin bb cream but never a actual foundation. I'm terrible at seeing the next new great foundation with crazy claims and buying into them thinking oh my gosh this will be the best thing to happen to my skin...then use it for a while and the cycle continues:(

An Estee Lauder (lifting?) Foundation. I'll know it when I see it. I've used it before and it had a wonderful moisterizing, glowy finish without shimmer. Its definitely for dry skin because it doesn't dry down completely, but enough for my desert-dry skin. Thats what gives it its glowy finish. My skin will suck the moisture out from most foundations, and I end up looking dry even without a setting powder (which I never use). But it would probably look too shiny on oily skintypes.

Right now I've got 4 in regular rotation. Hourglass hyaluronic skin tint, Too Faced born with it, Maybelline fit me smooth and dewy, and Chanel vitalumiere aqua.

*born this way lol.

I rotate them! I have one for work, days off, study days etc, and I have my mac studio fix for dates/going out etc! All of then have different finishes, wear times etc.

Ellie K.

Oh and the true match is my everyday foundation!

Rebecca J.

I think I know the foundation you are talking about Marleen. I don't think it would suit me I'm oily combo and enjoy a semi matte or natural finish. Estee Lauder make great foundations! :-)

Hayley it was true match but the new formula! I have pretty normal skin - and it was just a tiny sample I got in a magazine that happened to be a good color match for me so I thought hey let's try it out!

Rebecca I used my buffing brush! I need to get me one of those sponges, I have one a couple of months back but washed it with dish wash soap and it just good weird!
Samples are hard to get in Denmark - it's like the sales people (no matter where you shop) think asking for samples is like stealing their products haha! Plus we can't return products we have used! So buying high end foundations is always a risk!

Rebecca J.

Angela I'm the same! I need to see if those claims companies come out with actually hold up! :-D I enjoy trying new foundations but I need to stop buying them until at least next year if possible :-P

Rebecca J.

Ellie have you tried the new formulation of true match? It's excellent :-)

Try the real techniques sponge Sabrina if you haven't already! Awe I know the feeling about samples. Here in Ireland its the same except estee lauder. It's a complete gamble so I do lots of research before committing if they are unwilling to give me a sample. No returns allowed here either unless it's brand new and untouched!

I used to rotate them when I got ready every day, but now I only wear makeup 1-2 times a week so I just use a high coverage concealer and a cheap foundation, which I have bought a few but haven't liked any Haha.

But I used to buy at least one higher end, and rotate it with 1-2 others. Like others, a full coverage, light coverage and usually I had one for when my skin was extra extremely sensitive. I usually went through at least one before having to throw it away, but now that I'm not going out as much, I'm definitely not going to go through a whole bottle of anything.

I'm also very picky with foundation, so if I can, I will get samples I can use for at least 3 weeks, and see how my skin likes it. Unfortunately can't do that with drugstore products lol.

We don't have real techniques here yet haha! We are such a sad sad country when it comes to beauty products!
And oh I hate that it's like that with returns and samples - I mean so easily a foundation or cream product will not work with ones skin type and it's just to bad! But yes we do learn to do LOTS of research before buying ;)
