I'm allergic to salicylic acid bc it burns my face and makes it purple and it peels it looks so bad. But benzoyl peroxide which is in proactiv (the original) which I use everyday seems to work perfectly for me :-) I'm assuming it depends on the person

If you get an "allergic" reaction type of symptom for either one of them then it is probably because the concentration is too strong. Look for products with less percentage. However, if you aren't getting any of those symptoms, it is best that you actually use both! I usually have salicylic acid face wash and toner and a benzoyl peroxide for spot treatment. Salicylic helps prevent future breakouts while benzoyl peroxide treats current acne. Also note that they are supposed to cause some peeling. Just make sure to moisturize on top.

I have a salicyllic acid scrub with charcoal in it that works wonders but benzoyl peroxide breaks me out. I think it has to do with your skin type...
