So I've been hearing a lot of bad things about mac lately about the way workers treat people coming in. I just want to know so I don't ruin my day. Is it worth getting a bad day over or should I just buy my things online? If you guys have any experiences at mac please share I would love to hear!! Thanks ❤️😊

I had just posted the same thread but I have no responses yet. I'd love to hear everyone's opinion tho. I've heard that Mac employees can be really racist towards Asians like myself because I look so young and I'm really short.

I've always had lovely service visiting MAC at Bloomingdale's and Nordstrom, also great service in their stand alone stores.
MAC at Macy's has always been a bummer for me, I haven't seen any racism issues where I am at... Miami is a nice melting pot of different cultures and people.

It depends on your location. I'm in Texas and the employees at Mac in the mall are super rude. They'll literally just kind of shove you out of the way to open drawers rather than asking you to move over. However, there's quite a few nice employees there. I would just go into the store and observe their behavior :)

I say you go in with confidence and look around and enjoy the product's. I think you can get a bad Apple in any store but you can always tell a manager of your experience If it happens. I personally just walk in get what I need chit chat a bit with a mac person and then I'm on my way to Sephora and do the same thing there lol I'm not sure if you all know but BL Member Tiffany works for Mac and she's extremely helpful here and I run into a great amount of wonderful people that work for Mac or any makeup palace. Just have a great attitude and let the negative roll off the shoulders if you experience it. I'm sure you'll be fine. :)

The Mac counters in the DMV area are iffy. Some of the employees are rude to younger customers. At other locations the employees are very welcoming and nice! It really depends I guess!

I've always had good service at my local mall (South Australian), but have noticed if you go to Mac stores in the city that the girl will be more up themselves. Really just depends on location in my opinion :)

I honestly think it depends on where you live. I remember going to Mac when I was 23 or 24 and one of the girls kept gasping and saying my daughter was loud when she was just talking in baby voice. I thought that was pretty rude considering EVERYONE was loud at the store. Not only that but she match my colors wrong and said I have pink undertones. Ugh! Lol but where I live in southern Washington, they are ALL super nice.

I don't like Mac & where I live I Florida they're especially rude.. I think they're more interested in showing off their makeup and hair then they are in helping us. Just my opinion :)

I live in central Washington and every time I go into the one we have in our Macy's no one is around. Its always awkward because if I actually want something or have a question there's no employees around! Lol. Sometimes someone comes out from the back but they never really say anything.

From what I've heard, there quite a bit of racism like Natalie said! I've heard a lot of issues about it if you're Asian and also if you're younger.

In all honestly, I HAVE absolutely noticed a difference in how I get treated depending on my makeup and what I wear that way. I do feel like the general negative experiences from Mac counters derive from discrimination in either race, age, or social class. Of course it's very hard to generalize every Mac worker across the board, and even if people have had bad experiences at your location it could have always been an individual staff member. Go in with an open, positive mind so you don't accidentally end up being rude to them in anticipation of a negative experience lol! If something does happen though, I do urge you to take it up with a manager as well as write a comment to head office. I definitely think these incidents should be reported to more than just the Internet so that Mac can do something about it :)

Thank you Alma :) I must second Jacqueline here. Mac's motto is all ages, all races, all sexes. If you are feeling victimized it is your responsibility to call customer service and place a complaint. Knowing the name of the location (so they can look up the store number) and the name of the employee is really all you need to place your complaint.

From my experiences, the MAC employees wanted to rush me out to get to the next customer. It's likely because I'm young. I was matched to the wrong undertone and given a foundation that didn't work with my skin type at all. Then, I went back for another one, and got another bad foundation recommendation. But the ladies working there were just fine in their attitudes-- if anything, it's my mall's Sephora employees that are rude.

I agree with Jacqueline.
I wouldn't say MAC is "racist"
I have a asian friend who goes to mac and has no problems.
There definitely isn't a race issue.
You can't believe all these story's if you haven't even gone to MAC store before.
Just go in and be confident.
that's what I do, and luckily I get complimented on my makeup.
Which is a reason why I love going. (Besides buying the makeup)

I agree with Jacqueline.
I think a lot of people have issues when they look younger, because I know here, there's 3 Mac stores, and one is in West Edmonton mall (which is a huge tourist attraction) and young teenagers will go there after school and get the staff to do their makeup and then leave. Or they'll just do their own makeup with testers and then leave without buying anything. I've had quite a few friends that work at Mac, and unfortunately they do have to make a certain amount of money from customers. So when there is a young teenager who likely doesn't have the money to afford Mac, verus a lady in her 30's with the nice bag, they'd help the lady in her 30's first.
I always get helped at Mac, unless there is a crowd of people who are older than me. Because really, the younger you are the less likely it is that you can afford it.
I have a quite wealthy friend who since middle school has had more Mac products than most beauty gurus have now, but she would have to go with her mom or literally flash around her cash before Mac employees would help her first. Of course if she was the only one in the store they'd always help. I think that's half of why Mac gets called racist, at least in my opinion, a lot of the ones saying that are asian, (especially on YouTube), and Asian woman tend to look quite young longer. But they get service, they just aren't as quick about it if there are older customers. But that's every business really.
Just from a business point of view, young early teens are not who they want to focus on.
Of course every store is different, and you might get someone who is super perky, willing to help or there's someone who is having a rough day and just sees it as making money so they take their time getting over to you. But again, that's really any business.
I've really never had a problem. If one mac employee was busy or didn't look like they were going to help, another employee would come up to me. I've really only had one time where nobody helped me and when I finally went up to the counter and asked, they were rude but the next time I went in I talked to the manager and he said he fired her after two days because she was rude and not helpful.
This is incredibly long and I'm sorry lol. But Mac is a business, and it wouldn't be a very good business or they would be going bankrupt if they treated all their customers like crap. In the end they want to make money with whoever is wanting to buy from them.
