Silicone - water based foundations and primers.

I was wondering what are the differences between them. I mean I know that you have to use primer and foundation with the same base, but what I really mean is, are they supposed to give you different results depending on the base? Are water based supposed to give you a more "natural", lighter result and silicone based a more... I don't know... different result? Also is one more suitable for a certain type of skin or anything like that?
I hope you understand and sorry for my bad english.

I actually use Embryolisse Lait-creme Concentrate (mineral oil based) with my MUFE Face and Body...which is a water based foundation and the finish is lovely and incredibly natural.

I'd be interested in hearing more regarding this as well. Your English is great, Irine!
