I recently purchased the laura mercier translucent setting powder, and every time I use it to set my under eye it starts to look dry even after I moisturize the area and I don't know why!

I find that it's too mattifying a powder to use under eyes as well (I have the pressed version). I use the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders as an under eye setter and the Laura Mercier on the rest of my face/my oily hotspots.

Maybe you're putting on too much powder. I dip my brush into the cap & tap off 2-3 times & then I tap or LIGHTLY press the powder onto the concealer. And only 3-4 taps each eye. Also, another thing to consider is the type of concealer you're using. Are you using a concealer that is a cream to powder formula? You may not even need to set it with powder, maybe just squirt a little setting spray on a beauty blender & set with that only. You can also dampen a beauty blender & apply powder with it instead of a brush. Again, only use the most minimal powder you can get away with. You don't want to MATTIFY your undereye area just add a thin film of powder. Nowadays I see so many girls on Youtube go to town with the powder. You think they look good, but you're not seeing them in person. Film makeup is different from real-life makeup.

@ Marlene B I like the setting spray idea! I think I will try that next. I'm currently using the tarte ceaseless concealer and I try to put as little as possible of the setting powder on the brush because of the dry look, and it still looks dry. So I will be trying the setting spray with the beauty blender.

^ yeah you don't absolutely need to set under eye area with powder - sometimes it's better not to - or just use a very tiny amount as Marlene mentioned - I mean like a light dusting with a small fan brush.

Use a teensy tiny amount. I stray from powdering under my eyes nowadays as well because it just brings out wrinkles that weren't even there before! lol.

I use the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder (thanks to Jacqueline's suggestion!) under my eyes, and I'm 58 years old. When I use concealer, it creases and looks blotchy, and that makes me look older! I smooth the concealer caught in the lines and use the slightest bit of the powder to set the concealer (I take an eye shadow brush and dip it into whatever powder is stuck to the lid of the cap; then I tap the brush a few times before lightly applying it). I find this keeps the concealer from creasing or slipping thereafter. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are good too, as Jamie suggested.

I use an hourglass powder under my eyes as well bc it is the only thing that doesn't make me look old:( I don't remember which one I use for my under eye area atm though.

We can't get any powders similar to Hourglass in Serbia,all of them are your regular mattifying type of powders,no matter the brand... So what I do is: aply the tinyest amount of powder,and then lightly dab some amount of liquid highlighter on top. I also do a light amount of some cheap rich in silicones concealer instead of highlighter sometimes. Its kinda odd putting a cream product on top of the powder,but they kinda merge together creating a creaseless but still not dry and aging look that I dislike.
