My hair is cut into a lob but I have thick hair sometimes during the day I get certain spots on my scalp that hurt. Does anyone know where it can be from? Even when I don't straighten it or put heat to my hair the pain sometimes starts coming in...it feels like my hairs being pulled from that part but every time I shower it goes away. Would anyone be able to help or anyone get this?😮

It's so annoying because I always try to massage away & it just never works. So I just have to wash out my hair for it to go away for awhile😐

Have you considered that it might not be dandruff, but instead Eczema or Psoriasis? Freshly washed hair exfoliates the scalp; irritation for either condition can appear later, as scales form and sometimes tenderness from cracking occurs as flaking increases. Often the conditions are dismissed as dandruff as the flaking is quite similar, yet the ailments are vastly different.

You see I've checked my scalp & everything it's not even red but it still hurts...is it possible to use too much conditioner? I do have dandruff but I usually wash my hair the day of that I see my dandruff coming in because sometimes it gets so bad😐

Hmmm...when you get dandruff, do you see any patches on your scalp? Perhaps particular areas that are sore where the flakes are gathering? I only ask because the flakes vanishing is common for certain scalp conditions...but the pain can appear the next day due to irritation from the shampooing. So before you wash, next time you are flaking...you might want to check for patches..even if there is no redness. I have Psoriasis and I'm not suggesting you do, but an exam of your flaking scalp might help you out. I get pain the next day after washing..but only in certain spots.

Sometimes the use of hot tools cause certain areas to have pain if I've pulled on them during styling..agsin, that's always the day after or so. The Wet Brush has helped me soooo much!
I also wonder if you have noticed a correlation between clip-in extension placement and your pain. It could just be you have a sensitive scalp and so even something as simple as washing and styling can irritate it. If you aren't using a Wet Brush, you can pick one up for about $8 at Target, Sally, Walmart, etc. Very gentle with no snagging and is perfect for extensions, use on damp hair and even dry hair.

I find a natural, green tea rinse helps sooth my scalp from flakes and sore irritation. Since green tea is naturally antibacterial and reduces inflammation it is great way to soothe a sore scalp without damaging your hair in any way. I think the Green Tea might be worth a shot.

Rather than dandruff, you may just have a tight, dry scalp that flakes and is sore because of the tightness. Even people with oily hair can experience dry scalp. Since dandruff is different from dry scalp, using dandruff shampoo on a tight scalp can make it much worse by drying it out further. Take Selsun Blue, for example. It might address itching and flaking with claims of hydrating, but you won't see the level of hydration a dry scalp needs using it. A dry scalp benefits from natural, organic oils being applied on just the scalp and lightly massaging it.

Amping up Omega 3 and Vitamin E in your diet are also great for dry scalps. Hydrating foods and plenty of water are also important. Being dehydrated even after drinking alcohol can effect a dry scalp...or indoor heating..the sun. It can really have an impact on any scalp.
Lastly, people often associate flaking with dandruff or greasy hair, but Dermatitis as a result of a chemical reaction to a shampoo or conditioner would also cause soreness and flakes. You may have a sensitivity to one of your hair products.

Hope that is of some help and you feel better soon. I feel ya.

Rozberry I have dry patches on my stomach that look like scales and I've noticed them on my under arm area. I have not gone to the doctor because they don't itch or anything but I think it's time to go get it checked out. I noticed that I have it on my scalp too! Thanks for responding. Noemy M I'm glad you made this post :)

Maria...my Psoriasis began on my scalp..but I do get it on my torso in patches and underarm. I'm glad it isn't hurting you, but it can spread like wildfire out of nowhere, which mine did for years. It could be a variety of skin conditions that are treatable, such as dermatitis..perhaps eczema l... but I wouldn't put off seeing a derm to prevent spreading.
If it is Psoriasos, it is actually a disease of the immune system...of which there is no cure..only treatment. Many people outgrow it or it gets better later in life. It certainly has lessened tremendously for me, but I do see a derm routinely. It often runs in families, but can skip generations. Good luck, Maria. For now, stay moisturized as best you can. Until you see a derm, apply Aquaphor to the patches and for your tummy...after you shower, apply the Aquaphor and then wrap your tummy in generic plastic wrap. I don't know why, but generic works better..lol It will soften the patch and then easily exfoliate in the shower/with your towel so that it feels soft again.
Glad you are going to a derm. Best of luck to you, Maria!

Actually I don't have any patches which is the weird part I don't have anything not even redness but it just hurts to the point where I need to wash my hair for it to go away! The pain comes from the crown of my head & my dandruff is usually near my front mostly. I make my boyfriend check if I have patches but it seems like I don't it's just weird because I've been getting it a lot lately where I feel like I need to wash my hair all the time (which I don't like to do) but thank you so much you're information it was so helpful!! & I'll be picking up a wet brush as well on my way home :)

You're welcome Maria, makes me feel better that I'm not the only one & that I also got great advice! But you should go to the doctors to check your conditions just to make sure that's what I'm going to end up doing as well :)
