Hi guys! So I dye my hair red about a week ago and I just wasted it and most of the color came out and is turning into a orangey color which I hate! So anyways I was wondering what could I use to maintain the red color?

Hmmm I would only use a purple shampoo for blonde hair not red, but I'm not sure. They do make similar shampoos like that for red heads, I have the Shimmer Lights for Red hair that I bought at Sally's Beauty and Ebay. Those type of toner shampoos are not meant for everyday use, the purple shampoos are used for blonde hair when it starts looking brassy yellow/orangish. I've had red hair for years now (not currently though) but make sure you are using a color shampoo and conditioner and something sulfate free (L'Oreal EverColor, Pureology, Redken, and Nexxus; make sure you get the one for colored hair). Never use hot or warm water when washing your hair, cold water is your best friend. Don't wash everyday. Use little heat if possible and always use a heat protector when you are using heat. I also recommend John Frieda's Color Gloss for red. All the products mentioned can be found at most drugstores and Ulta... Since it orangey though, you may need to re-color if your hairs health can handle it, because no matter what the color will fade, you can't get back that vibrant color once its faded, you just have to maintain it.

Don't use purple shampoo it will cancel out brassy red tones which you need for red hair. Redkin has a red color depositing shampoo and conditioner that I used when I had red hair. I got it from Sallys

If you want to go the DIY route, buy some red veggie dye like Manic Panic, Directions, Crazy Color, etc. - the best is a red that is more pinky than orangey- and mix it in with your usual conditioner. Every time you condition, let it sit for a while and do a mask with it once a week so the color stays vibrant!
Also, sulfate free shampoo will prolong your hair color too!

Yeah definitely not purple shampoo. when I had red hair, I used shampoo & conditioner meant for redheads (its tinted red) called riveting reds, available at sallys. then I'd apply a red veggie dye (manic panic) every so often to keep the color vibrnt.

The girls above are absolutely correct! With red hair comes maintenance. You'll most likely have to redye or touch up your hair every 2-6 weeks depending on how quickly it washes out.
