Hey ladies. Just had a question I'm sure someone here could help me with.
So, I want to get my hair done, a professional styled cut and color. However, I've never gotten anything but haircuts at salons before. My aunt used to have a stylist come to her house after hours, so that's what I used to do. But that's not a thing anymore, and now all I get is trims at Great Clips, lol. So my question is, how should I go about finding a salon to go to? Should I ask my family or coworkers to point me towards a place? Or is there another way to make sure I get a good salon? It's my first time getting this kind of thing done to my hair, so if it's not good, I think I'll cry and never do it again haha. Any input would be great. Thank you, beauties!

I'd ask friends and family or if you pass any salons, remember the name and look for reviews online later.

I'd hit up Yelp and look at pictures and reviews. You want to read the ones with the most current dates. Noemally, I'd say ask a friend, but I've had hard feelings and disappointments going that route...unless you have a,friend that has been going to a certain stylist for years; that reference I would trust.

(and make your apt. with a Master stylist) It costs more, but is well worth it in my view.

I agree with Rozberry. I searched on Yelp and found my salon.

What is a master stylist?

Jessica, stylists are given levels based on skill, experience, education, and often, specialized training. A master colorist should be someone not only trained in the salon's color line, but with color and toners, etc. as a whole. They often have longer wait times for appointments. This is not to say another stylist can't do great color, but with my own hair, I prefer both a master colorist and stylist. (Which mine is.)

I forgot to note, many reputable salons are on Instagram, so if you find a salon you are interested in on Yelp, see if they also have customer pics or published works, photoshpots, etc. on IG. Read the comments. They are often telling. Good luck! (My fav color line is Pravana)

I agree with Rozberry, as always lol.. if you know of any friends who have gone to their stylist for a while and you love how it looks, then go onto yelp as well as instagram. I found my stylist that way, my friends hair was always perfection and her IG pics were exactly what I wanted which made it easy the first time to show her what I want since she did the same to another person recently. My stylist is a master stylist as well, she does Kate upton's hair as well as a few other celebrities. she's difficult to get into because she travels from here, Chicago & NY I think every 2 weeks & is expensive but when it comes to color it's worth it. The amount of money I spent before on my old stylist.. going back more often to adjust it & never being fully happy ended up being more money because she gets it perfect in one session
