Okay so I got my hair done last Monday by a salon highly recommended (I got a perm and yes my hair was extremely healthy) and I waited the recommended time frame before washing and I noticed that I'm missing a spot of hair. It feels almost like my hair was shaved but it wasn't and it definitely wasn't there before I got my hair done (I'm super obsessive and ocd about my hair) when the stylist was trimming my hair and styling it she gave me this god awful side part after she asked which way I parted and I said down the middle because I have straight across bangs and now I realize that it was because I was missing a section of hair (it's not noticeable when styled but I still know that it's there and it bothers me) and I'm upset because she didn't tell me before I left the salon thinking I wouldn't notice and that it was okay to lie about something. To me that's something big you should definitely tell someone about.
Now my question is; do I have the right to be mad and should I contact the salon owner/manager about it or not? I have an appointment to get my hair dyed at the end of the month and now I kinda want to cancel because I'd like to keep my remaining hair.

You absolutely have the right to go back to the salon and complain. I would be furious in your situation, and I think that the manager needs to know what exactly happened.

I have been thinking about it all weekend because I'm incredibly upset. I have a hard time trusting salons I've never been too and then for this to happen makes it even worse. At first I thought I was imagining it but I'm not and I thought maybe my hair got damaged but no where else on my head is like that and it makes no sense for it to be that way. But I will definitely be calling tomorrow because they aren't open on the weekends.

I have had my hair permed once before and the same happened to me but the stylist was horrible and left the perm on for to log causing chemical problems for my hair and my hair went two shades lighter and some of my hair even went missing (not lots but I had like two bold spots) anyways it could have either been the chemical reaction of the perm to your hair or just your stylist so think rationally and if the perm treatment did go perfect and could not have possibly failed I would solve it with my stylist rationally because I might in the future want to use their services again but still make a point of saying it is wrong you have the right to be angry but still be rational

I absolutely understand, I haven't had my hair done exactly the way I wanted it in a good long while. But yes if you're missing hair it is absolutely the salon's fault and you have every right to be upset and let them know.

@Anne the perm is perfect there is absolutely nothing wrong with it and I timed it myself to make sure that it wasn't on too long and I didn't have a chemical reaction either. My hair feels like it was cut off, if that makes sense and not melted off because I've had that happen before too.

From a professional point of view, she might have had the band on the rod secured incorrectly, which causes the hair to become very weak right at the root and most of the time it will break off. That could explain why it almost feels shaved down. Unfortunately there isn't a ton you can do about it. But definitely go back and complain, they might refund you or give you free conditioning treatments

Is the area completely void of hair? As if it fell out or are there still some hair stubble? I only ask because I had the same thing but it was more due to a health issue. Hypothyroidism could cause alopecia. mine happened out of no where also. one day I noticed it as I was straightening my hair. I was so upset. it's grown back but it's different. hope I didn't scare you, just spreading the awareness.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I went to the salon this morning and basically they told me "oh sometimes that happens" and told me to have a nice day which probably upset me more than anything else. I will be definitely cancelling my next appointment.

I would contact the salon and complain. but in addition to help grow back the hair use olive oil in the roots and massage in the roots.

Definitely speak up anytime you sit in a beauty salon chair to have any kind of beauty treatment be clear and specific of what you want and make your concerns known. I would hold off on any other hair treatment until this fiasco is settled. I would demand a refund or better yet once your hair grows back in the bald patch area have the salon color artist do it for free for all your troubles. Better yet request a different colorist too.
