Does SPF cause anyone else to breakout?

I've tried all types and brands of sunscreen for my face to combat dark spots from acne and hyperpigmentation. The problem that I'm having is that wearing and reapplying SPF products throughout the day causes me to breakout on my chin, cheeks and forehead. I've experimented by not wearing SPF for days and then wearing it was days. It's definitely the SPF that is breaking me out. Does anyone else have this issue?

Yes, happens with me too. I stopped wearing sunscreen.

Are you using chemical or physical sunscreen? Also, have you consulted a derm?

Saying you've tried all types & brands doesn't narrow it down quite well! I would suggest either looking into Shiseido, only line of SPF that I & many others have no issues with... Also maybe try a powder or foundation with SPF in it instead? Even a primer... Just be wary of flashback!

Yes this happens to me. I have really acne prone skin, and products with chemical sunscreens definitely aggravate my acne. I look for sunscreens with zinc oxide instead, it's a physical sunscreen. Titanium dioxide is another physical sunscreen, but personally it irritates my skin. Pay attention to the other ingredients in your sunscreen too because they're usually not the best for sensitive or acne prone skin types.

Have you tried any of the powder spfs like from ptr or colorescience?

If I wear the sunscreen normally set aside for the beach due to the high SPF for a few days then I find myself breaking out. And I also rotate between chemical and physical sunscreens for day to day. Have you tried the one from Josie Maran? It's a moisturizing SPF of 47 and it has yet to cause me any grief and I'm now on my second bottle. And my oily/combo aging skin loves it.

The sunscreen I'm using now is the Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47. It's the only one that doesn't break me out as much. I've tried Peter Thomas Roth, Clarins, Clinique, Murad, Shiseido and many others that I can't remember right now. I haven't seen a dermatologist about this particular issue as I've always had oily, acne prone skin. Only recently has my skin not had as much cystic acne but more little blackheads in just this area and I see its worst on days I apply sunscreen. Through research and speaking with specialists, I've learned that SPF in foundation or powders isn't enough. You would need to apply so much that it wouldn't look right or be beneficial to my skin. The last skin consultation I had is what made me realize how important SPF is in a skincare regimen. I guess I will just deal with the little breakouts but I'm glad that I'm not the only one who experiences this. Thanks beauties! 😘

I rotate as Shelley does and although I use Josie, I really love my Dermalogica Age Smart Primer with SPF. I have sensitive skin and it doesn't break me out, plus, it gives a nice glow and reapplicatuon is easy. It has an odd odor upon initially leaving the tube, but it immediately vanishes upon application. I really like CeraVe AM as well.

I've heard great things about Goop!

If you aren't already doing so a facial might be needed to extract the gunk in your pores. Skin is probably congested.

Thanks for the suggestions. I doubt my skin is congested as I do masks twice a week, use my Clarisonic at least once a day and one of my good friends that studied dermatology has her way with my skin when she feels it isn't doing well. It really sucks because I'm eating so much healthier and drinking tons more water. I've been able to cut down my hyperthyroidism meds, my hair is growing like crazy, my nails are super strong and white, but SPF is messing up my skin. I'm sure my hubby is tired of hearing about my beauty issues.
