Any tricks or life hacks to make your eyelashes longer or seem longer?

I saw somewhere that if you use an eyelash comb, comb thru a cotton ball and then brush your lashes.. I don't know if it actually works, I've heard first hand that it does.. But sometimes the cotton can stay in your lashes and might get in your eye.

I treat my brows and lashes with coconut oil after I wash my face at night. It's wonderful! I had sparse areas on my lower lashline on my right eye and this treatment works. People are going to say it doesn't work and my lashes just grew out on its own but it was sparse and empty for the longest time before I did this.

I have very sensitive skin therefore I cannot use much moisturizers. I started using pure Aloe Vera gel as moisturizer and I am telling you that my lashes have grown like crazy. Aloe is all natural therefore it can't damage your skin or anything. I really suggest trying it :)

^ everything is natural but it can still hurt the skin. I wouldn't put aloe on your lashes. All that does is create a breeding ground for bacteria, can cause infections, and permanent eye damage. It can cause the lashes that were meant to fall out to stick and cause ingrown lashes, which due to the breeding ground of bacteria you've created you're pretty much guaranteed an infection, which can cause serious eye issues, including blindness, and if not treated quickly can cause to having to remove the eye or the infection can travel to the brain. Your lashes do not have a long life cycle, so moisturizing them isn't going to do anything but coat them and cause issues. Do not use any oils or anything not-eye-for-eyes on your lashes! If you're incredibly insecure about your lashes, go get a prescription for latisse. It's the only product to be proven to grow lashes, but it comes with side effects and requires a prescription and monthly check ups.

Dip a q-tip in some baby powder and put it on your lashes (with your eyes closed of course) the baby powder will act as an eyelash primer. Then curl as close to the lash line as possible!

Coconut oil is fine. It's antibacterial, though the eyelashes sticking and it causing irritation/ingrown lashes are still a risk.

I've gotten this information from my personal derm and eye doctor, and have read several studies, plus medical cases on people's experiences with infection due to putting vaseline, castor or other oils in their lashes. There have been several cases where people get bad infections and need serious medical help, and sometimes it is irreversible. I read a case in a book from my local teaching hospital about how a young girl put vaseline on her lashes everyday for nearly 5 years. Nothing happened until she got a bad infection (I believe it was ear/sinuses) and her body stopped fighting the bacteria on her eyes as hard, to deal with the other infection. Long gross gory while later, her eye was basically shut closed from the infection. They had to operate and try to clean out the infection before it spread to the brain. She ended up losing her eye because of it. She could have lost brain cells or had a full blown brain infection, which is often deadly.

Of course I can stop anyone from doing it, it's their eyeballs not mine, but personally I don't think risking anything with your eyeballs is worth even the longest luscious lashes. You can't fix permanent blindness or an infection that traveled to the brain.

The latisse thing varies from place to place, as everything does. Here in Alberta, Canada, you need a prescription. You can be fined for having it without a prescription and a company can be shut down for selling it illegally without a prescription from a doctor.

Over 3 years ago on BL I shared my own story on threads that talked about vaseline on lashes. I talked about how I used it for 5 years to give lift to my lashes with a curler since I wasn't able to use mascara. I also shared that in my own words it did nothing for growth and it was a illusion appearance to the lash as if they did have length but in fact it didn't, 5 years and nothing lol I wouldn't suggest such a thing that didn't work for me but it's truly up to those who want to. I will say in makeup we use vaseline for eyelids to give the glisten/gloss shadow technique finish just be light handed and know what your doing.Always use with caution if you choose to risk it but know it won't give growth. As for coconut cream/oils that stuff burns my eye's, it always has and that's my caution awareness with it. I know that I can't use it and I've tried different one's but love it for other things. :)

I too, like Livi have seen eyebrow and eyelash growth when using an oil. Personally, Castor oil gave me the results  (:

I personally don't wear mascara everyday and they seem longer.

With mascara they can dry out your lashes and cause breakage. Breakage can especially happen to those that use a lash curler after putting on mascara or those even sleep with mascara, people that try to rub the mascara off with their dry fingers etc.

I usually just wear falsies and don't really wear mascara at all. When I do, my lashes look a lot longer and nicer overall

Coconut oil is antifungal and antibacterial not sure about any other oils. Vaseline is a thick jelly and is a sealant and not a moisturizing product at all so those two are completely two different things. Coconut oil is very beneficial and I'm only telling her what worked for me. Aloe Vera is antibacterial as well it can sooth skin infections. How can something so beneficial to our bodies be a breeding ground for bacteria? It's also VERY thin If you purchase one that is like the lalune naturals. Why must someone put down something so beneficial because of an article of some girl using Vaseline?

Thank you ladies for taking the time to give feed back no matter what, on Cassie thread, it's much appreciated  ;)

Yes coconut oil is antibacterial. But it will not stop ingrown lashes or infection that starts in the eye due to any fallout of the bacteria that is now trapped to your lashes instead of falling off. Vaseline is different in formula, but the same science applies to castor oil, olive oil, etc. They are not antibacterial and will only cause problems.
It also wasn't an "article" it was an entry from a medical journal from the teaching hospital in my city, and it was all about the surgeries this girl had to go through, losing an eye just because she wanted longer eyelashes. There were more than one case, of people ending up in the ER because of oils or vaseline, but that's the one that stuck in my memory. I wanted to let people know that it can go fine for years, until it isn't fine anymore and lands you in the ER.

Aloe is soothing but it's not completely antibacterial unless you get it straight from the plant. The additives and preservatives from bottles makes it lose lots of its benefits and in many cases it's no longer antibacterial because of the other ingredients in it. I know here it's incredibly hard to get an aloe plant, I wanted one a while back and the cheapest I could find was nearly 300$ for it, since it usually doesn't survive Canadian winters.

Like I said above, I can't stop anyone from doing it, but I hope people don't without truly looking at medical journals, hospital records etc.and not just online blogs that claim it's safe, because it's not always safe. And as someone who has had lots of eye problems and who can't see anything without glasses or contacts, I take my eyes seriously and wouldn't risk going permanently blind or losing an eye just for the chance to have better lashes, since these oils have never been proven to work at all, it's usually just the placebo effect.

I tried fiber lashes for a while but it didn't do enough for me so I looked into latisse in Florida you can get it with no prescription but for me it costs $150 so I ordered generic latisse (careprost) online I used it for 30 days with really amazing results until last week I noticed my eyes were very irritated, red and felt like they had been scratched it kept getting worse so I went to my eye doctor and I have a bad eye infection in both eyes and cannot wear my contacts until I'm cleared to do so with that said be very careful with what you put on your lashes I will not be purchasing latisse or anything else to grow my lashes I will deal with having shorter not as thick lashes and healthy eyes :)

I used fiber lashes a couple times, but I always got the little hairs in my eyes and/or on my face...I've used baby powder, as well - that works well for volume and length. I use Vaseline nightly to remove my waterproof eyemakeup before I wash my face, and then I put a small bit between my fingers and rub on the length of my lashes. I've never had any problems with this method, at all - been doing it for probably longer than many of you have been alive! LOL I have no breakage in my lashes and they are healthy.

Currently, I use CoverGirl Super Sizer mascara which works GREAT!! Literally after just 2 strokes, my lashes get really long.

I've been experimenting with a lash primers and I found them to work magic at thickening and lengthening lashes. Especially in the lengthening department. As far as applying coconut oil and other oils on the lashes...never tried myself and probably never will. I really don't believe that they are no different in causing eye infections than a man-made lab generated product that has gone thru rigorous testing. I've seen people use Latisse experience adverse reactions because they are allergic to either the base ingredient or improperly apply it. Applying anything to one's eyes/faces comes with some sort of risk.

Some of the girls where I work, Sephora, swear by using one of the Diorshow primers on their lashes at night for conditioning/growth, but I can't attest to whether it actually works or not?! Might be worth a try though. I also notice more growth when I stay away from waterproof mascara & even give my lashes a break from falsies.

A good primer and tweezerman lash comb. I. Can not live with out it. My lashes do break and fall out which is natural but my auto immune disease makes it worse.
I always get asked if I am wearing false lashes Bc they look so good when the combination.of right mascara and comb is used.
