Moisturizer does exactly that, moisturized your skin. Primer provides a barrier between your skin and makeup products.

Moisturizer is a skincare product that adds moisture to your skin. Primer is a makeup product that provides a barrier between you skin and the makeup you're apply and also gives you makeup something to stick to so it lasts longer throughout the day.

Moisturizer usually has water and a mix of humectants, emollients and even occlusive ingredients and may have things like vitamins, sunscreen, anti-wrinkle ingredients. Etc all depends on the moisturizer. Moisturizer has the water and the emollient and occlusive stuff is meant to "lock-in" that moisture to keep the skin moisturized. Silicone I believe is an occlusive ingredient
Primer, usually just silicone with additives and may have some mattifying ingredients. The silicone in it is meant to make foundations and such to apply more smoothly and not drag or get patchy. The silicone in the primer is meant to be able to sort of hold onto the silicones in foundation so it could last longer.
I find face primer to be kind of pointless, I don't did that it makes my foundation last much longer. I usually just use moisturizer.
With eye primers, it's different, I find they actually work very well for eyeshadows

Aurora I think that's why I haven't tried any just because I don't think very would serve any real purpose to me I don't have very oily skin at all except for like the tip of my nose and I rarely wear makeup for more than maybe 5 or 6 hours , but I do like eye-shadow primers I feel like they definitely make a difference

I have heard some people say that primer is not really necessary. As long as you apply a good moisturizer it will be good enough. I've always wondered tho.
My hourglass veil primer does keep me shine free though. So I don't know
