I start at the very base and as I bring it up I sort of wiggle and roll it (if that makes sense lol). the wiggling helps to separate the lashes and rolling it distributes all of the product from all sides of the brush as you bring it up.

I like to spin the brush as I apply it and that prevents clumping

Using a mascara wand with lots of fine bristles and wipe the extra formula of mascara on the opening of the tube so you get a nice even application instead of a heavy application within the first swipe

Use a lash brush and brush through a cotton ball and then brush your lashes with the cotton on it. The fibers sort of help your lashes have more volume. Isn't exactly a mascara trick but it still works.
The cotton can get in your eyes though.. So that might not be something you'd want to risk

I apply a base coat by looking down into a mirror so I can see all my top lashes and then brush up from root to tip. Then for the second coat I wiggle the brush through my lashes.

I use any type of plastic card : like an old credit car, business card, etc. and place it behind my eyelashes that way I don't get any mascara on my eyelids!

I've done the baby powder trick before - I dabbed some on with a QTip - great volume! Now I'm using the Katy Perry Covergirl brand, whatever that is (I always forget the name!!) It's really good. Just 2 swipes gives incredible length, and yes, the wiggle and the twist will add to the volume. I also make sure that my lashes are completely clean and moisturized at night when I wash my face - it makes the mascara go on a lot smoother. Good luck - try a few different things and see what works for you! :-)

I sort of wiggle the brush during my coats and then let it dry with my eyes open for about 10-15 seconds. That way I don't get any mascara on my lids or below my eyes

I take and put a thickening mascara on first then I add the lengthening one to the tips
