Just this morning I came across a post where a beauty blogger found a tiny hole in her beauty blender, in which she found a bug! I got the creeps! I LOVE my beauty blender, and I wash it about ever 3 or 4 uses, but now I'm a little concerned. What do y'all think?!

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the sponge itself. a bug probably just came along & decided that was a good place for it to make a home for itself, lol.

There is a video of this girl cutting up her beauty blender and pulling bugs out of it. I don't use a beauty blender and I'm fine with that haha :) I'd just give yours a good look over and squeeze it a little and see if you can feel anything in it.

I agree with reny. They often exaggerate or don't tell all the truth. She may have never washed it or consistently left it in a warm damp dark place which is where bugs love, or her house may have had an infestation and after they got rid of the bugs she found another in her bb. My local news did a story about how a guy, he found bugs in his coffee maker, and it blew up, Huffington post did an article including "quotes" from him, blaming the coffee maker company and then saying that this guy was going to sue, but on our local news, it was he had a bedbug infestation and he got a friend to exterminate rather than a company, so they only did his furniture. Leaving tons in other places, since they don't just live in beds. But he had to post all over his Facebook and stuff, like "no that's NOT what happened, I'm not going to sue, I was dumb and cut corners, and wanted to share to make sure that it doesn't happen again to someone else who's uninformed". So I generally don't trust the site.
Washing it at least every couple days, and keeping it to dry in a dry environment will help. Some people keep the packaging and put it back in there every time. Never leave it in the bathroom where moisture will constantly be in it and don't add more moisture if it's still damp from the day before, as that can cause mold pretty quickly. Make sure to let it dry completely.

Given the time it took her to find the critters... it's hard to say they came with the sponge. Though, I read in another article that it was a cheap BB knock off... seems like there are different versions already circulating the internet.
I always wash and inspect any cosmetic I get, just like with food. I don't know where it was before it came into my hands, and in stores people like to open up the packaging and mess around with them and stick their dirty fingers in the product. If my sponge had a hole in it, I would have returned it right away!

Sounds like it was a fake bb, and she didn't order it from the direct source. Anyway, that was really gross. Good thing I wash mine every time it's used lol.

If that girl was getting mold on her beauty blender then she wasnt taking good care of it I've had mine for a while and its still like new, it might just be me but on the video it doesn't look like a real beauty blender it looks like a dupe.

I see that this is an old post so hopefully someone sees my comment. THIS JUST HAPPENED TO ME TODAY. I am always tooting the beauty blender horn. I loved it. I will NEVER touch one again. I wash mine before and after every single use and leave it to dry. If I don't use it for a while I store it in a plastic bag once it has dried. OK? So, this morning I was cleaning it with the cleanser- rolling it around in the cleanser, squeezing it under the water, about 20 seconds into this all of the sudden I saw a bug in the sink, bigger than the ones in her video even. My husband was right there he suggested maybe it fell from the light, there's no way it came out of that sponge. Well, I was really feeling like it had. So, I googled it and found her video and bug was identical. I am so disgusted. Like I said, I clean it religiously. There was no mold nothing. No noticeable holes. I didn't even inspect it for tiny holes afterwards. I just demanded my husband immediately throw them out because I didn't even want to go back in the bathroom until they were gone. I can't even describe to you how disgusted and freaked out I still am. Never will I ever touch a beauty blender again.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I have bought all my beauty blenders at Sephora. So unless Sephora is hawking off fakes, it was the real deal.
