I'm having surgery on my shoulder at the end of the month and I have no idea how I will even begin to do my hair. My hair is extremely curly if I don't straighten it. Does anyone know how I can wash my hair or do anything with it after surgery?

With my prior surgeries, I was always told not to risk getting the incision wet, and to only do sponge/sink baths. It's extremely difficult to wash your hair in the sink or tub when you're recovering from surgery! After the greasy, horrible mess after my first back surgery (doctor told me I couldn't shower for 10 days!), I was not going to let that fly again lol. After my second back surgery, I went to the salon and had them wash and style my hair twice in the week (ish) period I was told not to shower, and just had help styling it afterwards. It was uncomfortable, and it'll cost some money, but the LAST thing you want to do while you're healing is take unnecessary risks. And unfortunately, something like washing your hair can be a risk! But with all that said, the best person to ask is your doctor. He/she might advise you to just bandage it well and you might not have any problems! Good luck with your surgery!!

Thank you so much! Luckily I can leave my hair curly but I don't know how I would even wash it or put product in it.

To wash your hair just bend over the tub and get someone to help you wash your hair using a bath tub shower hose

I had knee surgery last summer so had no hope of climbing into the shower for the first 3 weeks of my recovery. my dad is also disabled and my brother has his own home so washing my hair was nigh on impossible. for those three weeks I just lived on dry shampoo because I could barely walk and put it in a bun almost every day. it felt gross but no-one saw because I couldn't really get out the house without discomfort. if you won't be leaving the house much, just throw it in a bun or something easy to get it out of your face. when I could finally bend my knee enough I just clingfilmed my dressings so I could shower so I'd see if waterproofing them in that kind of way is possible at all too. good luck! :)

I had back surgery and couldn't bend or twist for six months, so I had my mom help me or wash my hair for me... Good luck with surgery!

Thank you ladies!! I'm just freaking out about the whole only having one hand to shampoo and condition my curly locks!! I feel like dry shampoo will be my best friend for a few weeks! I took out my extensions today and sat them to the side for a few months as I won't be able to keep them up while I'm healing. It was a sad process lol I miss my hair already! Luckily it's just shoulder surgery so I can bend over but I will be without the use of one of my arms completely.
