How To Pick A Blusher

Hi. I'm kind of new to the idea of more than mascara and lip gloss but I want to experiment. I'm light peachy skinned with auburn hair and dark lips and natural colour in my cheeks. I have been using bb cream so a) do I need a blusher and b) i have no idea how to pick one (and apply it) so that it will look natural. I'm terrified of looking like a clown or painted doll! Please help!
