The last week of July the FDA has released a letter to Doe Deere, saying they have the ingredients "ferric ferrocyanide and ultramarines" listed in their Velvitines. If you didn't know, these ingredients are commonly used in chemical hair dye because they are coloring agents, but they are known slight irritants and possible allergens to the skin, which is why some people get rashes on their ears and foreheads from some hair dyes. They are FDA approved in Europe, USA, and Canada for externally applied cosmetics, but because lipsticks can come into contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth and ingredients can be absorbed. These ingredients are not generally toxic even when ingested, but there hasn't been much testing on it and the US and Canada both take caution over it, but Europe does not have any rules against it. (To be clear, the FDA has not tested the lipsticks. It issued the warning letter based on the ingredients listed on the label.) That leaves Lime Crime with two choices: Get rid of those ingredients if they are indeed in the lipsticks, or fix the labeling if the ingredients aren't present. But I do hope the FDA does test the products since they randomly went to vegan when Sugarpill did, and yet they still have beeswax and carmine in their products ingredient list, which when confronted, Doe Deere just removed the ingredient list. She had been confronted about these ingredients before, for about the past 6 months, but she never answered and they already removed the ingredients off the website, so LimeCrime just ignored it. People reported it to the FDA which obviously got taken seriously.
As of this week, Lime Crime's website now has a disclaimer, saying it was an labeling misprint, which is also against standards of the FDA, that the FDA has "no proof" that it ever had these ingredients in them, and that it's legal in Europe so it should be no issue here, which if its just a misprint and its not actually in the ingredients why are they trying to defend it?
Hopefully this makes Lime Crime step up their standards and make it a company that you don't feel bad for buying from or feel unsure of what's going on your face.

What are your thoughts? Do you still buy LimeCrime? I really wanted the Melanie Martinez crybaby colors that are coming out soon, and was willing to forgive Limecrime until I heard more this week, I adore Melanie and the colors she's been teasing on IG have been super bright and absolutely stunning, but I don't think its worth it now.
If you don't buy from Limecrime, do you have any dupes to share? I know Kat Von D's new collection of liquid lipsticks has a lot of dupes for the reds, pinks and purples now, as well as tons of others.

Following!! This is interesting and just another reason for me not to purchase any of their products!

As for other brands definitely check out KVD or Bite!

Lisa - I know right? I can't believe half the things LC has done... And I have lots of KVD liquid lipsticks, but I was asking for specific dupes since I know there's always a thread on here asking for some, and I wanted to add a positive spin on the negative topic lol.

I don't understand why they are people who continue to use Lime Crime even after the last scandal broke out. They say it's 'over now' but a bad business is always a bad business. It disgusts me that people continue to shop their expensive products at the cost of others.
//rant.
That said, I'm really happy LA Splash and NYX have come out with vibrant lip colours! I want to get my hands on them!

Bash - unfortunately there are plenty of people who don't care about the brands ethnics as long as it's a good product, and lots of people don't bother looking it up. I know half the comments on any limecrime scandal are "oh my god I had no idea I wish I hadn't given them my money" and things like that.
I wish nyx was more available where I am. It's only eye products that I've been able to find. I want to try LA Splash too especially the new harry Potter ones but I don't want to order online without knowing the quality, especially now that I'm broke and can't afford anything I won't use lol.

They had an option of 10 lipsticks for like $100 that I got but since then I just never bought from them again with all the drama going on. I find their products to be very dupe -able.
At least the colors I got.
The lipsticks are the same price as my MAC ones I believe but with the Lime Crime my containers have cracked and broke for some reason and I just have them in my drawer do I don't know why.
I know RetroFuturist is very similar to Girl About Town from MAC.
D'Lilac reminds me a lot of the MAC Viva Glam Nicki II (just a slight pink undertone rather than blue)
Countessa Fluorescent is basically Candy Yum Yum
Just a lot more. I think the only one I'd even think about repurchasing is Airborne Unicorn but meh

I have never even heard of lime crime but that just sounds really shocking... Are they a brand or is it like a company that owns a lot of other brands?

Aurora - aren't they beautiful? They are going to make me so broke lol.
Buttercup - they are a brand. There's a link to their website. They're the ones that make the lipsticks with unicorns on them and the velvetine, which are liquid lipsticks. Though their stuff is just repackaged from wholesale mica sites.
