When I was put on antibiotocs for my acne it was only for the infection and inflammation (I use to be a bad one for picking). They helped for a while but were not a long time fix. Try taking an iron mineral of between 15-45mg everyday with food. This helped me a lot!

Vitamin E oil from GNC or Target is also a good topical solution that also helps prevent scarring. Retin-A by prescription is strong and fast but can cause photosensitivity. The problem with antibiotics is they can mess with oral birth control and also lead to yeast infections, not a tradeoff I'm willing to make.

Sometimes antibiotics will help reduce acne and a dermatologist might prescribe it if the acne is severe enough - and by severe, I mean very deep cystic acne...not a couple of little pimples.
HOWEVER. As with all antibiotics, if you take it long enough, you will gain resistance and it will cease to be effective.
If you do not correct the underlying problem that is causing the acne, taking antibiotics is like putting a bandaid on a broken leg.
