I go for Nicky Clarke. it makes your hair smooth and the heat change dial is brilliant!

I've used Heatmaster for about two years now and it works just as great today as the day that I first got it. It's fairly thin so I can use it as a curler too. And it heats up super fast. I will turn it on, put some heat protectant spray on and when I'm don't with putting on the spray, it will have already heated up :) I love it :) I got it at sally's for about $40.

I really don't think anything but ghd! They're the only heat product that helps protect your hair at the same time. Usually if its cheap, it'll be crap! Ghds are definitely with the investment!

GHDs for sure, my dad got me some for my birthday (I think, it could've been xmas lol) a couple if years ago, about 2 week's later I found them in my room snapped in half!! (I think the boyfriend at the time stood on them by accident but didn't wana admit it lol) I was gutted so I rang my dad up like 'omg what am I going to do', luckily, the wires were still intact and only the plastic had snapped, he superglued them back together and voila, I have used them nearly everyday since that happened (2 and a half years ago) and theyre amazing! even after bring snapped!!

I had a chi and it just stopped working I found out that they are not real ceramic plates. I now have a ginalli milano a lil pricey but worth it for me.

I have a GHD that I've had for the last two years now. Its the best, although when I recently coloured my hair blue, and used my GHD, the ceramic plates got stained and now they are blue! hahaha!! It still works fine (thank goodness!)

The Remington Pearl. It's a skinny black one with pink plates. You can heat it up to 410 degrees and it heats fast. It also has a lock setting so you can hold the temp. For the price it does the job well and I absolutely love it. The healthier your hair is, the better it will style, but this straightener is one to try. I don't think you'll be disappointed! Sorry for the late reply -- just saw your post! :) good luck!
