Honestly, it does take some balls to dress how you want to. but if it really makes you that uncomfortable I'd take it slow. maybe wear one of the really cute tops with some leggings and flats? I don't know, I wear shoes without a heel, but thats what makes me comfortable. it all really comes down to what makes YOU feel lovely. as for your self esteem issues I'd write down one thing a day you like about youself. if that weirds you out then just tell yourself in your head one thing you like about yourself. :)

I feel like that too but when I actually end up getting ready and make myself look nice my confidence goes up. I don't dress nice for other people,I dress nice cause it makes me feel good about myself. every girl wants to look pretty. but being.comfortable is always the next best thing. but trust me,if you just get up and get dressed super nicely, youre confidence will go up.
it helped me.

Megan, we wear like the same thing, its super funny. anyway, what I do, I wear my leggings with some cute boots and then wear a dress over it. I normally get compliments on it and I'm usually kinda nervous when wearing something new at school. but know you are beautiful. you seem like a very sweet girl. and you watch all the fashion blogs, you know style, that should be your confidence. ya know?

You should just wear it! (the stuff you think is cute) once you start getting compliments you'll start feeling way more confident =] also, you mentioned thinking that guys just compliment you cause they want 'stuff', they wouldn't want 'stuff' if they didn't find you attractive ;-P

I know exactly how you feel. Back in high school, I generally just wore black pants. Mainly yoga pants, no jeans. I did not wear a single pair of jeans in my days. It was bad. But afterwards, I just got myself a pair, try it on, wore it with one of my go to comfy tees and started from there.
Basically, I started my style after high school because all I cared was being comfy and not wasting time on beauty and fashion.
So my advice is, if you're afraid, just start slow. Try one piece whether it's going out or going to school, etc.and build on that. Or be bold and go for it, just wear one whole new outfit. No matter what it is the beginning of you changing your style a bit and it is out of your comfort zone but that's how it is with everything new we try. So just put the new clothes on. If you don't like it you can always take it off and never ever touched it again. =)

I feel the same way you do about my looks, but I was still voted best dressed (and actually in contention for 'most attractive') in the high school yearbook! I figured if I was already ugly, I can't make it any worse-I might as well dress better than everyone else and dress as outrageous as I wanted. I am not saying you are ugly or anything, but you might as well just concentrate on something else you can change and control. Back when I was in high school main stream fashion was really lame (more abercrombie than urban outfitters), so everyone thought I dressed CRAZY and really weird, but they LOVED it! I always wore what I wanted and never cared what anyone thought-they were all dweebs who dressed poorly and listened to bad music anyways! I actually didn't have mirrors in my bathroom or bedroom all throughout high school because I thought I was THAT ugly (I only used compact mirrors for makeup, even!)-so I just wore what I wanted and didn't think about how I looked in it, and it turned out awesome! I mean thats really bad and self-destructive, but I'm just saying concentrate your energy on your clothing and style and don't worry about about being ugly or pretty or cool or not. Not caring what other people think and doing things because YOU like them is the only way to go through life...

Your style actually sounds really cute. You need to feel comfortable in your own skin, I still have days when I wake up, look in the mirror and say "I look like s#@t"... most women do it if even just occasionally. I always thought I looked terrible when I was your age. I eventually got up and said screw it, I'm going to wear what I want and wear it for me only! You should go out in what you think is the cutest outfit with your head held high and rock it with confidence! You will be stunning in whatever you wear as long as you hold yourself high and remain confident. :)
