You take an elastic en you make a ponytail stop when the hair is almost out of the elastic then twist the elstic and pull it over , done :)

I usually just tie it up relatively high, then twist my hair around the base of the pony tail and secure with another elastic. I don't need bobby pins usually unless there are ends sticking out.
