Ally K, to say not to listen to someone else's opinion is ignorant. Everyone is different and what works for one person, may not work for another, or vice versa. Its good to take everyone's experiences and decide from there. Don't take it so personally, it's just chapstick.

When the skin on your lips are flaking, exfoliate it. Afterwards, just keep using Baby Lips by Mabelline. You can find this chapstick in most drugstores. I recommend the green one with the red words on it, or the blue one with the yellow words on it. Those work amazing.

Use lip moisturising gloss, not lip balm. There is a difference! Try organic lip moistures, they heal chapped lips fast. (I have chapped lips too) Try the Rimmel London Moisture Renew Cream Lipgloss.
Hope this helps! xo Carabelle
