I clean my brushes in two types. Spot cleaning and thorough cleaning. I do spot cleaning usually weekly or when I need to clean a brush. I do thorough cleaning every after 3 months in a manner like washing my own hair. Baby shampoo, conditioner afterwards. And make sure you dont let the water go through the metal hardwares or it will loosen up the glue that holds the hair of your brush.

I always used baby shampoo and that worked great but got a brush shampoo from ELF recently and I find that works great too and is really cheap :) I usually wash them all about every 2 weeks but depends? :)

I just use baby shampoo and have been doing so since I bought my first set if brushes over ten years ago. I still have them and they still look great after all these years of using baby shampoo so I see no point in buying expensive brush cleansers. I did pick up a bottle of MAC brush cleanser to see what all the hype was all about but I found it to not clean as well as my old standby cleanser. I followed the directions given to me by the artist who sold me the bottle.
