The obsession with expensive brands.

It's like beating a dead horse. People buy what they like. I have a bad habit of only buying name brand food items because they taste different to me and my family. Every one has their vices. lol.

Not always., but most of the time you get what you pay for. Quality or quantity :))

I like both. In some cases spending the extra money for the high-end product is extremely worth it though.

@Teresa Maybe I will start to view some makeup the same way. lol I just tend to always put my two kids and husband first. He always gets on me hard about that too. If it's not my health I will put them first. Like he bought me a real Mac brush set for Valentine's Day because I had been talking about wanting some Mac or Sigma brushes. He told me that he knew I wouldn't buy them for myself.

Honestly if you go high end you will no the difference. But yes I do agree saying that a lot of things are not worth it, therefore you should search it online before purchasing. However, just the consistancy of mac eyeshadows and lipsticks and their face powders are just so different. It makes you never want to go back and I used to be a drugstore girl in middleschool. Then when I became more interested with makeup and began to build a kit for my freelancing you have to have good quality make up to put on them sorry :/. They won't pay a lot of money if you whip out a wet and wild quad and start doing their eyeshadow when they can go out purchase it themselves and do it too.

Well I can't lie that I obsessed with the expensive ones. but to be honest I also love thw drugstore brands. I have 88 original pallete and they're very pigmented. omg I just ordered my first MUA and so excited can't waittt to try. btw my mom gave me a pallete of estee lauder, and I'm sure its quite expensive but its such an ugly color and not pigmented at all. so price doesnt guarantee.

Which MUA palette did you get? Let me know if you like it. I love it, been hoping to hear some other opinions.
@Gab D Yeah I see what everyone's saying about having to have more expensive products in your kit but I think the skills are still the most important. I'd rather have a makeup artist who does amazing makeup with cheap products than one that's not so good using high end. Obviously both is preferable though lol. I'm really hoping to start freelancing if I can get a bit of interest and then of course I'll start looking into the high end products a bit more

I have to admit that I only use Chanel eye shadows and lip gloss. There is no comparable product with feel and color selection to Chanel glossimer. I am obsessed with Giggle. But I do just buy Neutrogena Naturals Face Wash and moisturizer. I just want gentle cleansing and non greasy lotion to keep my skin in shape.

HERE,HERE I AGREE people pay for names not saying that the product not great but you can find the same type of product for a cheap price.

I only buy what I know works for me. For instance, most of my eye shadows are high end because most of my drugstore shadows don't have the color payoff that I get with higher end shadows. Yet, every high end mascara that I have tried doesn't come close to Maybelline or Loreal. So, no matter what the price, the product should look and feel good to me.

I agree with the topic starter. There are so many great drugstore products that I find sufficient to work with. But there are exceptions when I will find a high end product that, to me, is truly of better quality or has the exact colour or consitency I'm looking for like foundations and lipsticks. But like you said, with eyeshadows I feel it really doesn't matter what brand it is, it's easy to tell if it'll look and apply well.
But that's just me, I understand others might be looking for something more in their eyeshadows like I do when it comes to foundation.

I can't wear drugstore powders or foundations because I cannot find a shade pale enough for me. I also have issues with a lot of eye colors because they can irritate my eyes, only a couple of drugstore eye products work for me. My main issue with drug store lipsticks are texture and smell. Too often they either feel awful or smell awful. I'm not opposed to wearing drugstore makeup when I can find products that do work for me. For instance I'm in love with the Revlon lip tint balm pencils and I love Maybelline's color tattoo eye shadows.

Too often dry shadows from drugstores have no pigmentation to me and they fade so quickly. I do think that often you get what you pay for with makeup. I have seldom come across an expensive item that has disappointed.

Majorly agree with El O. its very harf for me to find a brand pale enough for my slef. I recently tried lancome and they dont even go pale enough. but its expensive and an amazing line. nothing in a drug store compares.

@Kristan P and El O. I'm very pale myself and I've always found that a lot of foundations can be too orangey even in the palest shade but there is one that's super pale... It's maybelline superstay 24hr shade 005. It's a really milky pale colour. I also am fine with revlon ColorStay and max factor Facefinity. The first one is definitely the very palest though. Give them a try :) x

I tried all the drugstores brands, and I do mean all, about 2 years ago but I realize there may be new ones out now. I am full up on foundation at the moment but maybe when I get low I'll try these.

It's not so much the brands I don't think, more the individual products, so definitely worth keeping a look out. I tried maybelline fit me foundation in the palest shade and Kim kardashian could probably wear it... But the superstay 24hr one, I can't imagine anyone pale enough to not wear it. I'm a natural red head, who can burn in the UK in may in about 15 minutes if I'm not careful and it's pale enough for me lol :) x

When we start judging others it leads to separation and elitist mindset. If someone only purchases high-end it shouldn't be of any worry but to the one purchasing it. Same goes with individuals who only go drugstore. Everyone has a right to an opinion but also has a right to purchase whatever they please without negative backlash. I just had an interesting convo with my 13 year old who read this thread this morning and she made some valid points...too many for me to list but amazed me nevertheless.

The biggest pronblem is drugstore make up imho.
I could never find a good shade for my skin colour.

It's different with eyeshadow and lipsticks.
It still depends on the quality tho.
There are skme great eyeshadows, with great pigmentation. there are also some really crappy ones.

Here in Germany there are some great 2 Euro lipsticks.
It's ALMOST the same quality than my MUFE lipsticks.
Really weird.

but there are also some other important things like anim testing and stuff. You need to take a look at that aswell.

@Shelley W. I wasn't judging, I just was basically asking for more info. I'm happy to pay more if its worth it. But I feel a bit bad because some of the comments have ended up getting really judgemental lol. Nice one on raising an intelligent 13 year old btw :D reflects well on you. I feel like the world is getting less intelligent as time goes on, so there is some hope!x

It's personal preference, not being a makeup "snob". People like what they like. I enjoy my $5 palette as much as I do my $50 palettes.
It's all preference stop calling people makeup snobs.

I've worked in makeup for years and I've worked with the most expensive and the least expensive. the higher end products tend to be higher quality that look better and last longer. You get more bang for your buck. I recommend going to sephora. You can try the makeup on there... and if you buy it and dont like it, you can always return it.
