I dyed my hair red too, I think I dyed it when I had brown hair. It does stay in quite well but the bright red washes out very quick.
I think it really depends on what dye you use. Also red hair is difficult to maintain.
I'm going to try anf lighten my hair up next time, hope it gets a bit brighter.
Also, I don't know where you live, but you can buy a red coloring mousse. you put it in wet hair, comb it through and it stays for a week or maybe even 2 depending on the quality and your base haircolor.

good luck!

I have used schwartzkopf in the past, their red is really good too. It has a blue colored box. But I can't find it over here anymore.

With red hair wash it in cold water, half of my hair is red. I've had red hair since christmas. red is one of the hardest colors to maintain, but washing in cold water, and washing your hair 2-3 times a weeks help keep the color. I also use conditioner/dye mix, I just mixed a little red dye in with conditioner and it helps keep the color instead of going and buying the color shampoos that are more expensive. did you what like a bright red or a more natural red? I have the bright red. as for the back of your head, you could try using a mirror or see if someone can help you.

I dyed my hair at a salon, I was blonde but then bought a blonde bleaching kit at Walmart lets just say never again! Fried, my hair and basically killed it.. Then I went to salon and they said no more blonde I almost cried.. Then I got a bright dark purple red hair color and now I love it!
