You have to use a medicated lice shampoo, and comb through all of your hair to get rid of the nits. You also have to wash ALL clothes, linens, and treat your furniture and carpets with delousing chemicals. It is a lot of work, they are tricky to get rid of. Good luck!

Hi, I work at an elementary school. The only thing I would add is keep vacuuming the house and furniture daily for a couple of weeks. Don't try mayo, or oil it sooooooo doesn't work.

hi there, my son was infected with lice from his playgroup classmate and we all got it in the house. it was a desparate time and I tried all drug store shampoo to high end shampoo al it did was dry my scalp out and caused horrible dandruff and just killed lice but not the nits. then I tried my grandma's old method. and thats the only remedy that worked I swear by it.
depending on the length of your hair get a good amount of pure extra virgin olive oil. pour it into a bowl. buy pure apple cider vinegar. Braggs is the best.
thats it. so like 5 tablespoons of olive oil mixed with equal amount acv. and comb your hair and apply the mixture well into all of scalp. all of hair from root to end. wrap hair in plastic cap and leave it on for at least 2 hours. then wash with some shampoo let dry and then comb with a lice comb. try this for 3 days a week depending on how much lice u have. for me it worked the first day. :)

Brush out the hair in the bathtub to get the lice out. I got it twice when I was in elementary and my mom brushed my hair out then applied nix. I heard mayo works.

Mayonnaise worked for me when I was little. SMOTHER your hair in it, it cuts off their oxygen supply. Then just comb everything out.

No olive oil, no mayo- just get the stuff from the store. And you will have to repeat the whole process 2+ times, there is no way to get rid of ALL the lice and nits the first go around. And do the fabrics, vacuum, etc. I had it twice as a kid and it has definitely traumatized me- I hate those bugs...eww! Lice don't suffocate if you bury them in mayo, either...they don't operate that way.

see the last paragraph in "non chemical management".
I'm glad it worked for you though Kaysey<3 I would try it but always use the drugstore kit as a backup.

I agree with Julianne, DO NOT really on oil and mayo. There was a kid at my job whose family did that and no other method and the kid had lice coming back for years! I have seen them racing across the kid's scalp, hanging off her bangs, hatching and there were always nits. Yes it was reported. Nasty, don't do it.
