I've had mine pierced for almost 2 years now. Pain is different for everyone. But your eye will tear on whatever side you decide to pierce. When I got mine done they have me a L shaped ring. I like those better than the ones you just stick in with a ball at the end because its harder for them to come out & the other one hurts more to put in & take out. Your nose will be sore for a few days because its swollen. It'll feel weird for a while having something in your nose but you get used to it. Mine hasn't gotten infected yet but you need to clean it really good for a while when you first get it. The piercing place will tell you all you have to do. I didn't take my piercing out for a long amount of time until a year later & even then I was scared it would close but thankfully it didn't.

I've had my nose pierced for around three years now and its the easiest thing to take care of. The side doesn't matter, just pick whichever side you like best. I have 6 other piercings, not including ears, and the nose was honestly one of the least painful. I would also recommend a corkscrew stud because it fits in the curve of your nose. Make sure to go to a reputable piercer and look that everything is sanitary. Most piercers will give you a free bottle of saline solution to clean it with.

Try get one of the studs that are just straight (not coiled or pre-bent, that way you can bend it yourself to suit the size of your nostril l

It can take ages to fill in fully during which it can get infected and it will leave a permenant scar on your face. It may also get infected from frequent blowing while sick. I wouldn't do it.
