Use a heat protectant and a little hair spray. Let it dry. Start at the root and go up. Then flip your head and lightly spray with hairspray

After you've finished straightening try a light volumizing hair spray, hold it back from your head and spray it. Don't be afraid to tease your hair too. Try flipping your hair upside down and brushing through it, and then resuming your straight position brush through it lightly.

Try blow drying your hair upside down. It will lift your roots.

drying upside down, i never ever dry mine with my head up. but also you can use volumizers, either a mousse right on your roots and work it in, or a powder. there are tons to try. a powder you'll use on dry hair, and there are tons of videos on youtube if you need help. got2b makes the one i have.
