How do you get hair color out?

It doesn't come out completely, because it lifts your natural pigment out to make the deposit for artificial tone... However if the shade is a little to dark you can mix baking soda with shampoo in equal parts, leave in for 5 mins.. Rinse and shampoo out. Deep condition really well after. Other than that you will need a trip to the salon. :-)

Depends on the color. I can't help you with direct dyes, but you can get box color out if you're patient. Megan is right though. Your hair has been at least slightly lifted unless you used deposit-only color. However, baking soda is not really a removal agent. It's a mild abrasive that will help scrub your hair which may remove a tiny bit of pigment from the very outside of the cuticle...not really helpful in the long run. What you want is a sulphur based color remover like color oops. You may need more than one application, and you will also need clarifying shampoo and a protein conditioner.

I used adee phelan colour stripper to get me from dark brown back to my natural colour of golden blonde.. It works really well :)

I know you can try a clarifying shampoo to lift some of it! You can also do a vitamin c wash. You buy powdered vitamin C (you can find it at most health food stores) and mix equal marts of the powder and shampoo. It's not damaging at all! Try that a few times. Depending on how dark it is you probably won't be able to lift it all out. But you can always have your stylist do a bleach wash, that however, can be damaging!
