what can i use to help my nails grow and keep me from biting them ???? they look like little nubs lol

I tried to push back the cuticles n paint them bright colors. that makes the ugliness of the short bitten nails visible. that makes me stop biting... now my nails r medium length n I've stopped biting :-)
