I use which hazel and so does my daughter. We both have oily skin. I use a tea tree scrub as well from the body shop made for blackheads.

A Dermatologist would probably be his best bet as an antibiotic might help along with using topical treatments. If he is going to use OTC acne treatments, Witch Hazel is a good option but if he needs something a little stronger, products containing Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid might help. I've found BP products to be too strong for my skin so I use Neutrogena Clear Pore which has 2% Salicylic Acid at night and Witch Hazel in the morning. Another critical thing is to make sure to moisturize the skin as when the skin dries out too much, the dry skin can trap more oil in the pores which can worsen the situation so try to strike a balance with acne treatments and a moisturizer suitable for oily/acne-prone skin. Drinking plenty of water can also make a difference over time as well.
