Hi guys was wondering if anyone had any advice? I've been getting loads of dry skin around my mouth and it's looking awful when I apply make up. I use Avene products so have a good moisturiser and I'm exfoliating daily. Anyone know any tips/tricks to help it budge? Or even a good makeup that won't stick as much?

Mmm...just because you pay more for a moisturizer doesn't mean it's the best option for your skin. Especially more expensive ones can contain higher concentrations of ingredients that work - but that can also be irritating.

Check your label(s) for retinoids, peptides, vitamin C or A/BHA's (like lactic acid, glycolic acid and so on). Any of those may be drying or irritating your skin and you may have to dial back on the anti-aging/exfoliating/brightening ingredients.

A kind of cursory glance also seems to indicate that Avene doesn't use silicone as a moisture barrier (they won't list the full ingredient labels on the website on the three that I checked, so I may be wrong). Dimethicone may actually work better for you to retain moisture in the long run.

Another possibility is that you are simply exfoliating too much and that is drying out your skin.

I've had the same problem but more so my whole face was dry, and my makeup would look like its cracked up on my face! What seemed to help me was spectro derm face wash for dry skin and the moisturizer for dry skin their the blue covered ones, as well as before applying your make up right after moisturizing apply/spray on a primer I use Mac primer it's amazing! Hopefully that will help you :)

I always find that if I get dry skin around my mouth the best thing to do is apply an intense moisturiser like Nivea Blue (in the little blue tub) for best results apply before bed as you will move less in your sleep meaning the moisture can penetrate deeper and wont wear off as quick as it would during the day :)

Hi Tammi D! I too suffer from annoying dry skin! A product that has really turned my skin around as far as any flaking etc is the Origins Modern Friction Exfoliator. It really helps gently remove the dry skin, but it's still really gentle. I have sensitive skin as well and this product is great for both issues!!

I agree, using an expensive moisturizer doesn't mean it will work. I've been using one for months realizing it wasn't helping my skin AT ALL. I found Ponds Dry Skin Cream and you can get it at the drugstore!! It has worked so well for me. Hope that helps!!

If u have acne problems Vaseline is not a good choice, it can clog your pores.

You may be exfoliating too much. That can cause dry skin.
