Well if you straighten your hair you don't want to put mousse or gel on it . That will defeat the purpose & make it go wavy again . So leave it be after straightening it . I usually do it in small sections , and put it behind my head to let it cool. After I've finished I wait about 10 minutes , brush it out sleep on it and its still perfectly straight when I wake up! I have long thick naturally wavy hair too !

After flat ironing it run your blow dryer through your hair on low and on cold, it locks your style in and then add some frizz serum or something . I use bed head after party :)
