My hair is really thick and I have trouble having curls stay too, I put my hair in loose braids at night, ad put a small amount of hairspray in. And if I use an curling iron instead , I just use really strong hair spray and that's how I make it stay. Hope this helped:)

Before dropping your curl from the curling iron hold it in your hand still being in the curl shape wait for it to cool down then drop the curl.. The reason why u do this is because your hair is still forming its shape. By letting it cool in your hand it fully forms the curl instead of stretching out if you just drop them out of the curler
