mix water and a tablespoon of salt in a waterbottle. Spritz it on your hair and scrunch, also if you scrunch your hair in a messy bun after spraying it with the water/salt and leave it in the bun for about an hour you should have really pretty beachy waves !

I agree with Alyssa, possibly add some mousse if your hair doesn't hold waves? Or some spritz spray by Aussie :)

Alyssa's method is great, it produces really nice texture, but it can dry out your hair a while. Try braiding it before you go to bed. When you undo the braid, run your fingers through your hair to get rid of any knots, and spray with light hold hairspray.
